So I decided to pickup a E5300 with an ASUS motherboard that support FSB and Memory to 1066mhz. Applied some of the settings from what I've read on the intel website. I got this overclocked to about 3.8ghz with normal temperture. It's running abit faster then the E8400. I'm quite impress with this little guy. Total cost was about 140$.
Stock is 2.6GHz so that is a pretty good overclock and at a great price! Have you stress tested it yet? What cooler are you using?
The overclocking article I was following for this suggested that the heatsink that comes with the MB and CPU is more then adequate. At this time the CPU was running a benchmark stress test for 8hours at 48degrees celcius. I think that's pretty damn good.
I don't get it. E8400 is $150. Why would you pay $140 for this one? My 8400 has been doing 4.5G on air for about 8 months now. Edit: nvm, you also got a board with it. 3.8 is pretty good for that.
Hey there, 140$ Canadian including CPU and Motherboard. the E8400 in Canada is 190 + the motherboard is 140$. Take a wild guess? At 140$ Canadian that 50$ for the CPU and 90$ for the motherboard. I get the same power out of the E5300. Buying the CPU at 150$ USD would cost me close to 175$ and that motherboard would cost me about 125$ USD .... so no thank you.
My question is why would I go out of my way to get the best when there's no point? I have 3 system all different make and build.... So far I can't even figure out what's the different in between the 3. 1st system: Quad Core system with 4gb ram 800mhz + 9600 GTX 512mb. 2nd system: Dual Core 4gb ram 800mhz + GTS 250 512mb. 3rd system: Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of ram 1066mhz + 8800 GTX 512 mb. All 3 systems are running on scsi HD ast 10 000 rpm. On all 3 running Crysis full graphics everything to the max in 1440 x 900. I've yet to notice any difference in the performance. Why bother building higher end system when there's no difference? My system are not built for data, compiling or software programing, they are built for gaming, graphic and sound processing. Cheers.
