    Changes in 24.5.2012.0:
Build 24.5 has some changes in both WinPatrol and our installation program. This version addresses two major reports. One relates to WinPatrol crashing for no obvious reason. The other report is that WinPatrol wasn't always running when the computer boots up.
Our previous version also had more than it's share of trouble trying to "Kill" programs that were running. This version works much better so we expect all users will happy updating to 24.5.

Unfortunately on our two XP Pro SP3 setups the "kill" function still fails.

And though each of us has the exact same options selected, when we request "plus info" via the context menu, my wife is directed to WP's "Cloud Info" page while I receive a response from a page without any reference to the "cloud" or selecting any of various cloud feedback options. (And neither of us have the cloud features enabled.)

While I appreciate and support WP (via my Plus license), it continues to be erratic in its performance. What it does, it seems to do well, but one never knows if it's operating on all cylinders which is why I run it "on demand" only these days for whatever additional information or support it may provide.

The updated build seems to be a little snappier... quicker to respond.

    Looks good.

I'm going to try WinPatrol and see how it goes. Their web site has to be the one of the worst to be able to navigate to info about the product. Is a link to the features of the paid version out of the question? There's a page for it (after a google search). It's like they want to keep the info some sort of mystery...but there's plenty of links straight to their store page.

i did a test last year and i run like 10 malwares and i got very infected it blocks some rootkits to tell you and some other stuff but couple rouge and fake security programs got in and made the system unusable so i will say it is not safe alone:)

I have online armor and avast 7 installed alongside winpatrol and i think its a great little program to run alongside your existing security software.
Its very light and unobtrusive and i dont even know its there.
Everybody should have winpatrol installed as its another little extral layer of security.:isay: :thumb:

I checked my copy of WP and I have V24.6.2012.0

  20. Payed version - not sure, never used it. Supposed to have some HIPS components that can intercept changes in realtime (either with a driver or userspace hooking, not sure).

Free version - uses polling alone -> basically useless. Doesn't do anything for OS security at all, and Sysinternals tools are better for system maintenance (e.g. keeping track of autoruns and processes).

There are other tools like Winpatrol Free too (e.g. WinSonar). Don't use them, they're not good for anything (other than bogging down your machine).

Win Patrol should come preinstalled on every machine.. :thumb:

  23. Like I said, no idea, I've never used Plus. It might provide decent security. The free version definitely does not, though.

I got the plus version from an online $.99 special. Win Patrol Plus captures each and every detail of your machine, if an application makes a move Scottie's there. In the Plus version you get and extended explanation of all of your applications just click on the plus icon..

    Process Supervisor – PROCESSGOVERNOR.EXE

ProcessGovernor.exe installs with Process Supervisor by BitSum Technologies (formerly Collake Software. This program is designed to automatically configure and manage processes to maintain system stability and responsiveness. It also promises to detect keyloggers and some malicious .exe programs. If you want the services this program provides, leave this file in place.

More information can be found at http://www.bitsum.com/.
