Amazing as well as so relevant. Useful reminder (let's hope) Until next surprise package.

I've finally been offered 21H1 on my desktop PC this morning, along with an Intel driver and Preview .Net Framework update.

I got it installed with today's update but disabled it. I hope that it doesn't run in background when disabled through taskbar right-click option.

Weirdly, I have this registry key as shown in the ghacks article, it's set to 0 and no sign of News and Interests on my taskbar for almost a month now. I'm like: just about everyone wants to can it but I want to see it and can't get it. :cautious:

Thank you, mine is set to 2 also.
I also found Gpedit option: Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - News and Interests - Enable News and Interests on the Taskbar. I set that option to Disabled.

Odd. I updated several PCs to 19043.1023 today and it shows up on all of them now.

Yes, there's definitely something wrong on here, but what? I've done all the checks and whatnot that were offered online, incl. dism and sfc. It's not up to the level of a reset or clean-install, though. Congrats on getting it up and running. It seems your OS is now "complete" for the time being. :thumb:

I'm assuming you have already tried all of this?

I also assume the is no "News and interests" when you right click the taskbar on the popup menu between "Search" and "Show Cortana button"?

First, thanks for trying to help. :thumb: Yep, that link lo the Windows Club looked familiar but I went thru everything again, except the Group Policy. The registry key, as I showed in post 6885, is there and has a value of zero. I made sure the thing wasn't Hidden in the taskbar right-click menu. I rebooted. Phew! I'm worn out. I'm going for a chocolate-covered churn-style vanilla Popsicle now. Very hard work. :) (yeah, right)

The machine needs a reset, xxJackxx. I've reconciled to that weeks ago. I even negated all the Firewall rules I had. I had other issues that preceded this one. Microsoft telemetry could only go so far in fixing the Store. That's all it could do.

I couldn't agree more, I've only had problems when I was in the beta channel but that was expected testing new things, otherwise with the mainstream version I've never had issues. Some people run so many antimalware programs with a high potential for disrupting Windows. This was perhaps necessary in the XP days, but Win 10 is a lot more secure nowadays especially in conjunction with Microsoft Defender...

If it's not showing up at all then yes, the registry edits will do nothing. If the Store is also broken then there isn't much you can do short of a reset. A new user profile would probably make some of this stuff work, but as it would not contain anything from your current profile it may not be worth your time.

Did you try the group policies for cloud content (as I outlined above)?

hey imdb: meh, I'm over it. Not going to pursue it further, besides, Microsoft already gets lots of telemetry from this machine as it is on account of being in the Insiders program. It was just a curiosity and with a couple more mouse clicks, I can get the weather and news via Start Menu. Don't tell anybody but I can even look out the window for the most up-to-date local weather if I simply turn to the left. :isay:

Don't have Group Policy either since this is a Home version, so there goes that. :) S'alright. Just mentioning as many people are commenting on this N & I feature--mostly not positively.
