    Hey,

Which software would you choose to do cold backup from the list below and why?

    Active@ Disk Image
    Acronis True Image
    Symantec System Recovery
    ShadowProtect

I would choose Shadow Protect simply because it's the best.

I tried only ATI and I like it. So I would choose it.

While I would not install ATI for creating hot backups (the app is way too system-invasive!), for cold backups (and restores) I'd definitely go with ATI as long as its Linux boot-disk recognizes all of your drives!

Reason 1: ATI's boot-disk is the fastest of your group to bootup (CD vs. CD) and has a nice GUI.

Reason 2: ATI will backup your drive/partition faster than any other app in your group.

Reason 3: ATI has always created reliable (cold) backups and restores for me.

I would go for Acronis too, for cold backup/restore, i have tested many of them, and Acronis is/was fastest and it never failed.
I don't have it installed too, i just use the boot media.

Will definitely go for ATI. Provided as mentioned by Cruise "as long as its Linux boot-disk recognizes all of your drives!"

Experienced that one in one of the old pc's I have and that happens even if you have the latest chipset drivers. The linux boot cd would say that "Acronis True Image has not detected any hard drives..etc". I ended up making a WinPE disc which read all the drives correct!

I used Paragon / Macrium products and yes ATI creates and recovers the fastest.

You can trust your choice in imaging apps only if you had successful restores on your hardware.

Truer words were never spoken. I have personally created some very smooth (and validated) backups which would not restore my system 'when the chips were down'!
