I had to get my mother a new computer, which brings her into the era of XP from 98, (now that we are at the end of xp and soon will have a new OS):'(
Anyway I need to download the new version of NOD for her new computer.
Been out of touch with the tech of computers, not to mention these boards. Since I havent been in touch with technology lately. Im a little lost on what to download.

From the eset downloads page I find the following

    NOD32 Ver2
    For windows 2003/xp/ - 64-bit
    For windows NT/2000/2003/xp

So which do I download. I bought her a (cough, cough) Dell Dimension 9150.
It says its a Intel Pentium D Processor 820 (2.8GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB) with Dual Core Technology. and uses the Intel 945P chipset.

So how do you know if its 64 bit or not? and which version of NOD do I install?

you can download the x64 - it should also work on a x32 system.

For future reference with other programs...

Your mother's computer is capable of running in either 32-bit or 64-bit mode. However, Windows XP is a 32-bit operating system, so you need to install 32-bit versions of programs and drivers. It just so happens that the 64-bit NOD32 package is also capable of running in 32-bit mode.

Now, if you decide to upgrade the operating system to a 64-bit capable version of Windows, then you should use 64-bit versions of drivers and low-level programs like antivirus software. Most "normal" 32-bit Windows programs will continue to run just fine, though.
