I purchased an unlocked LG Nexus from Google for $349 and went with Straight Talk for $45 per month. The phone has worked very well for me, no complaints. And it's updated to the latest Android release. The price has dropped $100 so you can get the same phone for either $199 (8 GB) or $249 (16 GB) although they are usually sold out at those prices.
As much as I would love to switch out of Apple, I am forced to use iphones for the following reasons: - superior user experiance (solely personal bias) - stable OS and well polished quality apps - i dont have big google on top of my phone - everybody at work uses apple and if i use droid i will just look like the odd kid on the block - my work depends on stable and always working phone OS I am looking forward to ubuntu phones. But I am unsure if I will be able to replace my iphone with ubuntu any time soon. I need apps to work on ubuntu as well and that may take ages.
Android is just as stable, and as for the apps I guess it more of a personal preference than anything. It takes a few seconds to remove permanently. In which case either OS will serve you just fine. Android runs flawlessly on my $135 "no-name" Chinese phone.
True but iOS experiance feels more at home for me. And switching from Apple to Google is like changing one slave master for another. Im gonna wait until replicant, firefox and ubuntu os mature for the mobile os. Or more likely 2/3 are gonna die out with one left standing.
HTC ONE flashed with ViperOne http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334294 This is the most customizable ROM I have tried. It's based on HTC Sense. As the phone is rooted I've manually removed all the stuff I don't need, mostly Google and HTC apps and services.
i'm aware that it'll be a little bit o.t. but anyone knows a good military-grade rugged cell phone available for civilians but specifically designed for extreme conditions such as cell phones used by special task forces during operations?
Smartphone or feature phone. I think you can try searching in Google and Amazon. Search for "Shockproof", "Waterproof" phones.
thanks noob. i already did that. i just wanted to hear from a wilders member about their experiences w/ one of them. because i have my doubts that they might've compatibility issues w/ regular operators.
32Gb Samsung Galaxy S4 w/16Gb SD card, rooted and waiting for custom kernals and recovery mode. I got stuck on ME7. Before that was a rooted HTC Incredible running MIUI.
What about the Runbo X5? Less than $200 and running Android 4.2 on a 4" screen with a very high capacity battery. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Hot-...one-MTK6572-Dual-Core-Android/1285667279.html
I've personally bought 2 chinese phones in the past. (They do have a brand but its extremely rare . . . i call these generic phones) My experience with them was not so good.
I'm on my third Chinese phone, and it works fine. Auto brightness does not work - maybe a future ROM update will fix this, but everything else works flawlessly. It works really well - really fast, problem free running stock Android 4.2, and with the brightness turned up to maximum the screen is perfectly readable in direct sunlight. Indoors I have it turned down to 20% brightness as that is more than bright enough for use indoors. Also the battery life is decent. Reception is very good, and I've also had no issues with downloading apps from Play Store. Like many Chinese phones it can take two SIM cards, which is something I have no use for personally. The quality of my previous two Chinese phones was good too, and my last one even had a Sony camera in it. In general, the quality of Chinese phones is getting a lot better. Edit: What model phones were the ones you had Noob?
You really still have it alive? WOW! So nostalgic, I remember I wanted that phone when I still didn't have any mobile phone.
With the charger that came with it in the box No I don't remember that, but I do remember that the battery did last a very long time when it was new.
Lol, no. I meant did you charge it when the battery was really, completely, and totally drained? Also, did you overcharge it?
Haha I see. Yes exactly, I usually waited so long that it would start to peep or even turn itself off before I plugged it in. You mean leaving the charger plugged in for several days? No never, usually around 4-5 hours or until it was full again.
It doesn't need to be several days. If, say, the battery is fully charged in two hours, but you let your phone to be still charged up until five hours, it could affect the battery life. Li-ion and li-polymer don't suffer from such problems, but the older types do. Unless 3310's battery life was never been that long, but at least it should stay for two or three days without re-charging.
