After yet another attempt to get comfortable with running an AV, I've happily returned to the old reliable: Sandboxie and Mamutu with regular on-demand scans using MBAM, HMP, and occasionally EEK, now in the 3.0 version. Backed up with a system image just in case something somehow sneaks by.

I hadn't thought of it that way jmonge, but you are right, oddly enough I feel safer without a real-time AV. Maybe it's because they seem creaky, put together with rubber bands and chewing gum, strained from trying to do more than should be expected. This is just a feeling, with a heavy dose of technically meaningless metaphor, but that's how it is for me.

Trying out WSA 14 days trial. This thing is super light! Didn't even felt the scheduled scan running!
But the latest file detection & false alarm test by av-c doesn't look good :(

I like having an AV. I generally choose a cloud AV such as WSA, PCAV or kingsoft. They seem to run a little lighter than their sig based brothers.

I normally dont like the feel of a antivirus on a system. The day you remove a AV is when you notice a difference in performance,Some small differences and some big depending on the systems and the Antivirus.

I am back to using a AntiVirus - Bitdefender AV Plus 2013 on two windows 7 and there both running light as a goose feather.:thumb: what really impressive is the longer its on the lighter it feels, but the could be just my imagination.

LOL. I had the switch up flu for a while but then I found a happy medium and then did a fresh format and reinstalled the security I wanted and its like a new system again.I reimage or format at least once a year anyways, sometime more.

    MBAM protection enabled?

I just noticed that MBAM has a malicious website protection. Wonder when they added that? Just turned it on to see what happens, if it'll work with all the other browsing protection I have.
