As we can see, user's privacy on the internet keeps degrading from day to day. The Patriot Act in the USA, up to 5 years of prison in the UK if you don't disclose your encryption keys, encryption completely forbidden in France, Germany raiding Tor exit nodes and putting backdoor in JAP, increased censorship in Australia, Iran blocking access to some sites, China spying on and prosecuting journalists and activists... and the lists goes on and on. In your opinion, what country is the least privacy friendly (beside North Korea )?
Privacy and censorship are two different things. China is the worlds worst censor, imho. As far as true privacy loss, again, imho, it's got to be the U.K. If you're looking for real-world "1984"-type scenarios, you needn't look any further. As bad as the U.S is now and is getting, they don't hold a candle to U.K policies.

You are right, there is difference between censorship and anti-privacy laws. However, the emphasis is on privacy here.
My vote goes to the USA because it is allowing China to dictate rules forbidding the manufacture of new PC's with a Trusted platform Module to Dell and possibly other vendors. Shameful and cowardly.

The one thing about USA privacy policies is that we can write about them when we disagree. That's a bonus, I suppose.

Hard to say. It think, we dont know about situation in every country on Earth. Maybe Iran, maybe China, USA, etc...but where is North Korea, where are some African countries? Maybe Zimbabwe, Somalia...? We should give voice to our African members, couse this geopolitical region is completely unknown for me

Hi, I saw this poll today and it strikes me as being overly broad and will not really lead to any revelations related to the OP's original intent. The only thing it might show is the perceptions of those participating at best. "Privacy" is a subjective thing without a clear basis for comparison. You also need to take culture into consideration as this can have a significant impact on what is and is not privacy related. For example, the poll is showing (at the time of this post) that the majority of participants believe that China is the least privacy friendly. This shows a bit of confusion over whether the participant is actually reacting to censorship rather than looking strictly at privacy. Some things to think about here: 1. The population of China dwarfs that of other nations, even India. Which means it is orders of magnitude more difficult to single out a specific user, especially when the majority of computers are used in public access settings. You can disappear into the crowd and retain your privacy even though the traffic from the computer you are using is undoubtedly monitored at some point before it leaves the country. 2. Privacy is very important to business and commerce. As China is one of the most business friendly places in the world, they have incentive to maintain that privacy as long as that activity does not impact activities their authorities see as sensitive. This is no different in any of the countries listed in the poll though China may have more issues it considers "sensitive". An example: The Chinese do not allow foreign companies to collect data through their software products to be sent outside of China. Though this may have an obvious connection to aspects of what they see as national security, it does have a privacy benefit for their citizens and businesses. So does this mean that they actually are "unfriendly" to privacy itself or is it more related to their use of censorship to control what their citizens can see and discuss? JMHO Mike

Pardon me, I didn't know Israel was the exception to the global trend. However, media report on Israeli espionage in the USA, Israeli involvement in Ireland, but there are incentives to implement Orwellian practices even in the homeland, or not? Voted for Australia as it appears to be the worst in the western world right now. USA will be next, and quite probably even worse, from what i've been reading/hearing about from Many sources. They are using the False Flag terrorist excuses to severly clamp down on Everyone. The NSA etc will be controlling the web, not just monitoring it.
