    Hi Firefighter,

    Thanks for the link.
I looked at the "Detailed Results of File, Macro, and Script Virus" tests, and saw that that they used DrWeb v4.26 (it's now v4.29c), and the virus sig. date was 17Dec2001.
I think all the sig. dates for all the av programs were that old.

    Regards,
    Douglas

Yes, it is surprising that such a comprehensive, well structured test, would seemingly use totally outdated products and signatures.
I have to assume that the viruses used were also from the same time frame, as KAV and F-Secure scored 100% in most instances.
I would also assume that such testing takes a lot of time, so, possibly when the test started, everything was fresh.
I beleive that all were using the most recent updates when the testing started, and all were on equal footing.
There are those that would argue that the results are meaningless since the tested products are so out of date.
I would argue that looking at all of the Universities tests over a period of time, shows how the individual AVs fare against each other. Unless some product changes drastically, one way or another, tracking trends gives me usefull information.
Firefighter, I'm sorry but I do not understand what point you are trying to make. I had not seen the latest results yet, so I'm glad you pointed that out, but I also see nothing there that surprises me. :)

    To Root from Firefighter!

I had certain other things to do when I posted that link. The only thing was that, because I was a bit of embarrassed about that test now!

As I remember right, only some months ago there was an other quite similar test? Why an other so soon?

    Good point, root.
That's why you folks are the mods, and the more knowledgeable members, and I just ask questions. :)

    Regards,
    Douglas

No Douglas, I know nothing - except how to bribe Paul. :D
I went back and took a second look, and the last two tests, this one and the one from December, seem to be doing mostly the same thing with the same products and viruses.
There does seem to be quite a lag in producing information, however, I think it is valid information, done professionally.
It would be nice if the tests were more current, but this is an Academic setting, not a business site.
