Got this message while trying to install the latest version of PE.

I clicked on "Ignore" and it went ahead and installed properly anyway, I think.

Just a head's-up in case anyone else has experienced it. Pete

Did the uninstall of the previous version go without any warnings? And I had to reboot in between uninstalling the old and installing the new version. You too?

Hi Spy1, that would only occur I think, if register.exe was write protected or currently in use. Otherwise it should just overwrite it without a warning. We have done a few over the top installations without the warning, and the installation script hasn't changed between versions :) . I'm not too sure why it happened on your system unless you had the program running.

    Hi, Jason!

Definitely wasn't any PE icon in SYSTRAY, but I didn't actually bring up Windows Task Manager to make sure the exe had exited.

I've been noticing a situation where things that get closed aren't really having their exe's shut down here lately (at least, not according to WTM).

No idea why, unless it's due to the latest round of M$ "fixes".

    But thanks for responding! Pete

    Hi Pete,
yes some applications like to hide the main window appearing as if they've shutdown and then do all their shutdown code whilst the user thinks it already has been. Port Explorer keeps the "closing" dialog open whilst its shutting down so you can tell when it has finished it's shut down sequence. The more advanced software gets the bigger the shutdown it needs, sometimes anyhow :)

    Yes, I've been noticing that.

In some cases (WMP, especially), the exe apparently just doesn't ever get around to closing - I've seen it still there two hours after getting done with it.

Could be I need to start using the "File/Exit" menu on everything, instead of just closing things out with the "X".

Of course, "hiccups" during operation can cause icons to disappear from the SYSTRAY even though the program is still "running".

    Thanks. Pete

    Hi Pete,
Sounds like a bug in WMP (unless its designed to HIDE the window when you press the X button). Its amazing what some programs get up to though that you otherwise wouldn't expect.
