I'm trying to use universal restore to restore an image to an MS Virtual Server VHD. The error message is that it can't find a pciide driver. Virtual Server uses the same driver for all virtual machines. Why wouldn't TI have this driver built in? It's a generic ide driver. Sort of defeats the purpose of "universal" if it can't restore to a virtual server.

And a related question. Why is the build number of True Image for SBS so far behind all the other versions? Why is there no KB listing, upgrade or a FAQ available for the SBS product. Is it an orphan already, or is this just the usual Acronis delay in offering support?

    Hello headnerd,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Corprorate Disk Backup Software.

We are sorry for delayed response.

Please notice that Acronis Universal Restore doesn't include drivers in itself. As explained in the User's Guide, Acronis Universal Restore searches the Windows default driver storage folders (in the image being restored) for HAL and mass storage device drivers and installs drivers that better fit the target hardware. You can specify a custom driver repository (a folder or folders on a network drive or CD) which will also be used for drivers search. The Windows default driver storage folder is determined in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current version\DevicePath. This storage folder is usually WINDOWS/inf. If the target hardware has a specific mass storage controller (such as a SCSI, RAID, or Fibre Channel adapter) for the hard disk, you can install the appropriate driver manually, bypassing the automatic driver search-and-install procedure.

A new build of Acronis True Image for Microsoft Small Business Server is expected to be released as soon as it passes testing. Unfortunately, the exact time-frame isn't defined yet.

As for Acronis KB, since Acronis True Image for Microsoft Small Business Server is nearly in all aspects similar to Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server, the same KB articles are relevant to those two products.

    Thank you.
