TrueCrypt 6.0a is extremely faulty. Not only that it can not create the header backups if keyfiles were used but it also can not mount volumes created with previous versions of TrueCrypt if mp3's very used as keyfiles.

It's "amazing" to see that they still didn't fix those bugs.

I'm wondering are they testing it before official release at all?

I am aware of the keyfile backup issue, however I am not aware of the MP3 file issue.

Are you sure that the MP3s have not been modified? (IE: Will they pass a hash check?) It's very easy to inadvertently change a MP3 file without meaning to, depending on what your using to play it.

    Hello KK.

Can you please explain to me in layman terms, what exactly is this keyfile backup issue problem?

I have a TC container as I didn't install TC. And I use a keyfile whenever I decrypt the TC encrypted container.

So how does this bug affect me?

    Thanks.

v6 has a bug that prevents making manual backups of headers if you are using a hidden container with a keyfile.

If your using only passwords or not using hidden containers, your not affected.

I am sure that the mp3 files were not modified. I have my keyfiles safely stored on several different storage devices. And I never play them.

However, you'll get a full confirmation at a later time. When I try a previous version of TrueCrypt 5.1a.

KookyMan, I finally got some time and inspected the problem. It seems that I was only partially right. I have used several mp3 files as keyfiles for some containers that I have. And now with version 6.0a if I select them all at once during the mount procedure it will not work. I have to load them 1 by 1. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to mount the volumes.

It's not as horrible as I first thought it was. But it is a bug, as I was able to load them all with a single click with previous versions of TC.

They still didn't fix the keyfile backup bug!

After reading into these issues i'm glad i'm still using TC 5a, and i intend to sit with this version untill i read proof another new version is better w/o problems.

    I use containers.

I use Truecrypt v6.0a and I have had no problem backing up my headers, and yes I do use Pass & Keyfiles!

Either that or I just thought it was being backed up? It let me save the Backup headers.............

    War -

Are you using a hidden container, and if so, is that hidden container using a keyfile? If no to either of these, the keyfile bug shouldn't apply.

I love truecrypt, but the only problem is that since the 5 serie it requires many packages to install it on a basic commandline linux system. It would be easier if they implement an option for commandline use only or GUI use. Saves me alot of space and custom work.
