I just bought True Image 11, and every time I've tried to make a file backup (haven't tried create an image backup) it freezes or stalls, I'm running Vista Home Premium.

Well today, I contacted ATI support chat and they mentioned there is a known issue with regards to compression. I just set my compression level to none in the options and now everything seems to work. That is complete garbage, I bought this software over Symantec Ghost because I heard it was better . . . the fact that you can't compress your backup is ridiculous. If anyone knows how I can get my compression options to work (i.e., work around to this known issue) I would be very interested. Thank you.

Re this bug in ATI11, unfortunately you're stuck until a fixed build is released. Full drive/partiton backups should not be exhibiting this problem for what little solace that might bring you.

    Hello wmehra,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Backup software and please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you have experienced.

You can be sure that our Developers do their best to fix the issue as soon as possible. In order to create data backups with enabled compression you can try workaround suggested by Haeckli.

    Thank you

I too have the same issue with TI 11 (build 8053) freezing on data backups. I've tried switching off compression and also installing the latest drivers neither of which help for me. I haven't tried the suggested workaround as I didn't buy a shiny new quad core machine in order to purposely hobble it in order to run broken software.

I bought Acronis True Image Home as it is consistently referred to as the best of breed backup solution for a home user. However I now find myself saddled with a product that cannot even successfully complete a simple task. To rub salt into the wound I now find that this problem has been widely acknowledged and awaiting a fix for most of 2008.

To make matters worse I logged a call with Acronis Technical Support on May 31st and have had nothing back from them except an automated response.

I'm starting to wish I'd never heard of True Image.

Same here - backup stalls all the time, the product is useless for me. This problem is well known since January 2008 and now six month later Acronis still doesn't provide no update/fix for this huuuuuge problem. Sure I read about the workarounds but duhh.... I'm not a beta tester and I don't wanna mess with the reg-files.

So Acronis, when can we expect a working version? I bought Acronis True Image 11; do I have to downgrade to 10?

They always say, use the latest version,,,,,the latest version (Build # 8053) IS the problem!!!

    Hello all,

Many thanks for choosing Acronis True Image 11 Home.

We are really sorry for the difficulties you have using our software and nevertheless we hope it helped you to keep your data safe in some cases.

Ngibbons, please note that if the backup does not run even with compression level set to none this means that the issue is most likely caused by the 3-rd party software interfering with Acronis application. In order to identify one I'd recommend you to submit a request for technical support with the attached Device Tree utility screen shots, Windows System Information file and the link to this thread. We will do our best to help you as soon as possible. Device tree screen shots should be collected as it is described here. Windows System Information collecting is described in Acronis Help Post.

South Park, unfortunately exact time when the new build of the program is our is not defined yet. If you wish to downgrade you can submit a request for technical support and most likely will get it.

    Thank you

Hi there, thanks for the response. I have already submitted a request for technical support. 6 days ago. As I posted, I've received nothing but the automated response. Once somebody has clarified to me by what means I should be responding to you I'll gather the information that you requested.

DeviceTree doesn't work for me. On starting it reports the error "Cannot start service" followed by "Unable to load ans start OBJINFO driver".

    What now?

All I did is switched to the brand new and super fast Western Digital VelociRaptor SATA drive and now Acronis True Image 11 stalls every time exactly at 25%; compression on or off doesn't matter. I wonder if that could be the problem? I mean, it is still a SATA drive and True Image shouldn't have any problems with that.

Well, I wish I had found this forum a few days ago before I bought 11.0. 11.0 freezes on a dual core AMD chip with XP Pro (SP3). I've emailed support and posted on the forum but it seems Acronis does not want to respond to the customers with issues.

Does anyone have a backup software recommendation that's not made by Acronis?
