TrendMicro Internet Security

I was asked to survey a desktop for my sister and there's this computer manufacturer bundled along a free TrendMicro Internet Security (1 year) for every purchase of the desktop. From the trendmicro website, I see the latest version stated "TrendMicro Titanium Internet Security", quite mouthful, tho.

So my questions here are like
- How well trendmicro performs nowadays?
- Performance impact?
- Windows Firewall optimizations? Meaning it's like Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 NIS?

Or should I just ditch the free gift and purchase other suite instead?

i have good report for the latest Trend Micro Titanium suites so i would say in terms of performance is ok and it is really light on systems. it has a very strong web protection module. Some here would say that there are better suites and i have no doubts about it but TM itself is a very good security tool. i would keep it. To be sure i would also install MBAM and SAS free just in case.

Trend is running light and smooth hre. Its bad website blocking feature is very good.

 

imo, one of most underated av now, it sucked back in pc-cilin days, now its decent.

 

What's on demand scan speed like?

 

*update, just asked the shop staff, they mentioned it will come preinstalled ( i supposed by the manufacturer) with Titanium Internet Security 2011.

I think they just use the Windows firewall. Personally I think there are better "suites" out there. I'm not speaking specifically about the Av component. I'd go with a competitor personally.

Its ok but I would personally not use it. Go for Avast or Avira. (Paid version on Avira though) due to the recent crap with the free version.

 

Or even Panda Cloud. It seems to have improved a lot based on reviews I have read.

 

if it's a full years' worth of protection, you might as well leave it. on-demand scanning in 2011 isn't exactly "fast", but on-access scanning is very quick. the firewall booster is more than enough for a normal home user, and I'd argue that their approach to it (which is available in a whitepaper if you want to read about it) should be considered by more security software mfgrs. as mentioned by others, the malicious site blocking is really good as well. renewal prices suck, but licenses are cheap on amazon (you can buy the 2010 pro product and use the key to activate 2011 maximum)

 

Has it really? I tried 1.5 and the 1.9 beta but did not care for it. Maybe I will give this a go again.

yeah, they're not now that it's been out for 6+ months

when my father in law bought his trend license, amazon's prices for the 2011 product were near full-retail, so he purchased two 2010 pro licenses for a total of $25 (dynamic amazon pricing FTW.) to cover the next couple of years.

 

I haven't used it but the reviews I read made me want to try it.

In terms of detection, it's decent at best (shines @ detecting new threats and also web threats but kinda sucked @ detecting older threats in my experience).
It doesn't slow down my machine at all, very light
Uses Windows Firewall Booster, works better on Vista & 7

 

Using this more than a month. I have found that it's system impact has been reduced now than while I installed it.

oh, i assumed you were using the beta. i had tried out TIS2011 myself around december, but it had some issues so i didn't bother with it past that. maybe i'll take a look at it now. i do like stuff that doesn't constantly bother me.

*EDIT* well, unfortunately, it still observes the same problematic behavior with a few game titles i play regularly. worth a shot i guess. back to panda for me.
