    :) Hi, I just purchased TI9 and I am attempting to clone my primary C: drive to a second internal HD that I will remove after cloning. My purpose is to make a clone drive that I can remove and keep in case of a complete HD failure I can simply drop in the cloned drive and keep going.

    My problem is, everytime I go to clone the drive it states "non empty disk drive" and requires that I delete partitions on the destination drive. When I attempt to do this (delete the partitions) it then requires that I reboot to complete the operation. When I reboot, during reboot I see TI9 analyzing the partition on the destination drive. Then windows reloads, but nothing happens next. When windows reloads it does not automatically go back to TI9 and finish the HD clone. In fact, I have to re-launch TI9 and when I attempt to clone the disk again it's as if I am statring all over again! It requires that I delete the partition again on the destination drive and then requires another reboot which brings right back thru the same process that I just did. Why does it not delete the partition like it says it was going to? and then continue on with the disk cloning?

    Please help!

    Thanks:)

    Make the bootable rescue CD and use that to do the clone instead of trying to do it from within windows.

    Hello firefighterhuff,

    Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

    Please be aware that there are two approaches available:

    Clone Disk - moves the entire contents of one disk drive to another;

    Backup - creates a special archive file for backup and disaster recovery purposes;

    Please take a look at this FAQ article explaining the difference between Clone Disk and Backup approaches in more detail.

    Actually, Clone Disk approach is usually used to upgrade the hard drive (e.g. install a larger disk), while Backup approach is basically dedicated for the complete data backup and disaster recovery purposes. Since you are interested in backing up your hard drive for the disaster recovery purposes, I would recommend you to follow Backup approach. In case of the system crash you will just need to boot from Acronis True Image 9.0 Bootable Rescue CD and restore the image.

    Moreover, there are several advantages of creating an image over the disk cloning procedure such as: you can create an image without rebooting your PC, image creation can be scheduled for the particular point in time, Acronis True Image allows you to create incremental and differential images, image archive contains only the actual data and so it has a smaller size, images are ordinary files and so they can be stored on any type of the supported media, etc. However, the final choice is always up to your needs.

    You can find more information on how to use Acronis True Image 9.0 in the respective User's Guide.

    First of all, please make sure that you use the latest build (2323) of Acronis True Image 9.0 which is available at: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/support/updates/

    To get access to updates you should create an account at:
    http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/my/
    then log in and use your serial number to register your software.

    Please uninstall any previously installed build prior to installing build 2323.

    Please also check each partition of both source and destination hard drives by Windows utility:

    - For Windows 9x please use Windows menu Start\Run
    then enter the command "scandskw" and test all drives;

    - For Windows XP please use Windows menu Start\Run, then enter the command
    "chkdsk c: /r" "chkdsk d: /r" for every partition of your hard drive.

    Note that you will need to reboot your computer in order to scan the system partition.

    If the problem still persists after installing the update and checking the hard drive then download the latest version of Acronis drivers, install it with disabled logging and try to perform the disk cloning operation once more.

    If that does not help then please collect the following information:

    - Create Acronis Report and Windows System Information as it is described in Acronis Help Post.

    Please keep both drives connected while creating Acronis Report and Windows System Information.

    - Do as Chutsman has suggested and try perform the disk cloning operation when your PC is booted from Bootable Rescue CD created using the latest build (2323) of Acronis True Image 9.0. Let us know the result;

    - Describe actions taken before the problem appears step-by-step.

    Please submit a request for technical support. Attach the collected files and information to your request along with the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the solution.

    Thank you.
