Can the TrueImageMonitor and Schedhlp startup programs safely be
    disabled from the MsConfig.ing utility.

What is their purpose and if they're needed by TI 8.0 won't they be automatically started and ended after the process completes?

It's not really a bootup issue where my machine is runnning slower, I just
like to limit my startup programs to those that are necessary when the machine boots.

    Thanks

If you open Spybot Search&Destroy, Mode (Advanced), Tools (Bottom left), System Startup.
Click on the button with double blue arrows to the right to get info on some of the Startup programs on your computer.
Should you decide that you don't need a specific program, disable it first by unticking the checkbox in front of it until you have verified that you don't need it by rebooting and trying any applications possibly depending on it.
Unticked programs are removed from the MSConfig\Startup list. Once you have verified that the program is not needed, it can be deleted from your computer.

Dld, please be sure you know what you are doing when you give advice. They are needed for TI to run.

    And your point is?

The question was if they had to be started unconditional by Windows after boot, or if they would be started *when needed*.

If the programmers behind True Image are good, they also know how to ensure that the required services are up running before the imaging process begins. And if they are really good, they can also arrange for the services to be shut down when they are no longer needed.

While it might be true that it does not really matter performancewise that those small applications are loaded during boot (and then promptlu paged out to disk), it is still valid to ask: Why start them before they are needed?

Edit: No need to use Spybot S&D to do this on WinXP. Choose Start -> Run... -> msconfig.exe -> Start tab and you can disable/enable most startup programs.

    Hi MiniMax,

I wonder what that says about Microsoft's programers!!! Do a fresh install of Windows XP Home + SP2 and there will be 32 processes (34 for XP Pro) set to run automatically on startup. For most users, many of these could be set to "Manual" or "Disabled" without detriment to Windows' basic functionality. Worth checking out <BlackViper's web page> to see what I mean (linked to an Active Archive as his site is currently offline).

    Regards
    Tom

But my original question has not been answered:

I know how to use msconfig.ing to shutdown programs at startup. The
advise I was seeking is are the following two programs TrueImageMonitor
and Schedhlp needed by TI 8.0 at system bootup? Can I safely not have
them startup at boot time? Will they start automatically whenever TI 8.0
    needs them?

    Thanks

    Hello aspencolo,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

schedhlp.exe -- Acronis scheduling service helper
This program monitors the logons and logoffs in the running system and notifies Acronis scheduling service about them. It is started when a user logs into the system and terminates when the user logs off. Acronis True Image uses this program to schedule tasks on user logon/logoff and to run non-scheduled "Image creation" operation.

TrueImageMonitor.exe -- Acronis True Image Monitor
This program provides the interface between running Acronis True Image tasks and the user. It allows observe the tasks progress and cancel the running tasks. It is started when a user logs into the system and terminates when the user logs off. This program is not required by Acronis True Image to perform its tasks, and can be terminated if you think it occupies too much memory, but you will loose the ability to control running Acronis True Image tasks.

    Thank you.
