    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

This was out of only one other antispyware program I use which is SuperAntispyware, but as I feel I only need one for On Demand. MBAM is not only the winner, but the one I will keep.

It makes sense that MBAM would update much faster, their database is 1/100th the size of our database, so I hope it would download faster!

Excellent choice! I like their frequency of updates, too.

So may i conclude that cause SAS has 100 times more signatures ,
protection would be 100 times greater, but i suppose this is'nt what you meant.

I agree with OP that MBAM has a lightning fast update though.

what do you mean by fastest updating?

Do you mean quickest to respond to a new threat or do you mean quickest download of new definitions file

Can you explain more in detail how you came to this conclusion ? After all you named specific scanners.

I don't know what he exactly meant, but there is a difference in purely the time it take to start/ finish the updating process itself. MBAM is much faster.

Just being fast to download an update isn't enough to judge something on. How is it's detection rate? How does it interact with other software? How is the product support? etc...etc.

Just on support alone SAS gets my nod.

I concur, but IMO if this module is fast and smooth it will in general also reflect the overall quality of an application, and with MBAM rightly so.

Again a worthless topic. A variant of "the best" etc.
If fastest here means the time to download new definitions I don't really care if A needs 5 seconds and B needs 20 seconds.

Agree. Fastest doesn't mean its the best!

Although MBAM's updater is very quick and I reguard it as an excellent AM as well as run the guard, I still keep SAS on demand also.
Neither ever catch anything. They along with two other on demands confirm that i'm clean. My other security apps see to that. :D

How fast it can update def's, is not what i look at. I'll stick with SAS.

The time between "the moment, a malware is released" and "the moment, its signature is on my computer" was more alarming to me and a motive to change things. :)

    Hi, folks:

I think OP referred to the frequency of def update.

Yes, I must concur his observation that MNAB is the most frequent updater both in version/build and definition.

On other thread, one of three core members, Bruce Harrison has admitted that he normally spends X hrs work searching/updating malware def. I ought to give him a great deal of merits for doing this.

SAS has been around for a while; a larger database is the logical result of lengthy time work. SpySweeper and SpywareDoctor both have LARGE database as well.

As to effectiveness of detection/removal, IMO, SAS and MBAM are kind of diamond cuts another diamond.

Which one will emerge as a clear winner, is soly, IMO, and heavily depending upon which one has a smarter marketing/client retention policy.

SAS's lifetime license may have indeed, again IMO, hindered its future expansion, while MBAM's reluctance to offer free trial of full version may have already cut off some/if not more revenue flow-in.

Just my toonie sense during tea time.

FWIW MBAM also comes with lifetime update/upgrade subscription when you purchase the program.

Rather than lifetime subscription, which could hinder future development, these products should start offering alternatives.

Say either a low yearly rate, to sway people from the mainstream programs, or a 'two-year licence' at the same price as the other programs.

Thank you for your observation and your opinion.

However, it would seem that the duration of the update interval is a poor measure of the the effectiveness of a security product.

I can't speak for the OP, but I took his meaning to be that he had two AS programs and only needed one, so he chose the one that updated the fastest. For all you or anyone else knows, he thinks they are equal in all other aspects, but "I feel I only need one".

Pretty funny watching SAS users pouring out of the woodwork declaring their allegiance to the product and swearing not to switch. I guess that's why they call em fanboys. I didn't take the OP's intent to be to sway anyone, just to share his decision.

Our updates won't be any faster in 4.1 - we focus on things that really matter - like seeing rootkits others miss, etc. As far as our definition updates, you can see nearly daily updates here:
    htp://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html

Remember, our smart definitions can often remove hundreds (or thousands) of variants of a threat with a single definition. :)

We receive literally millions of samples through our FileResearchCenter.com site, so we can statistically analyze the movement of malware as it appears on users systems.

We aren't in competition with any other anti-spyware/malware company, we are in competition against the malware!

Selecting your anti-spyware program based on the speed of it's update seems a little strange. I have used SAS Pro for a long time and it has never let me down. I have started using MBAM as a second opinion and it did find some registry traces of adware I removed over a year ago. MBAM also cleaned up some malware from my friend's PC. Looks promising.

The more I look into what people say about SAS and MBAM the more I get the feeling people what each of us to destroy the other .

We are both engaged in a war , its just not with each other .

LOL. I agree. This thread is quite absurd, but amusing. I used both to verify my setup without even thinking about this.
