I was using Thunderbird until I had an issue compressing my messages stored locally. In order to send a message I had to compress each time and tried out Mozillas fix for it. It didnt work so I switched to Outlook 2007. Since then I have had nothing but slow downs and random system lag. Im trying out Bat Pro v4.2.36 and if that doesnt seem to want to cooperate Im sure Pop Peeper will.
I use Thunderbird and web mail. I would like to find a Free mail client that closely matches thunderbird (I haven't found it yet) to act a a back up program in case I develop a problem with thunderbird.
Thanks I am going to Try it out now, sometime ago I switched the mail protocol from .pop to .Imap because it is more secure and PostBox Express uses both protocols (Imap and Pop) as does Thunderbird but Element Mail does not.
Huh Both protocols should use SSL so i don't see one more secure over the other. Infact, i think IMAP is far "less secure" because it syncs with copies on the server which makes your email wide open to scanning and whatever else ISP's, email providers like Gmail, Hotmail, etc do. Even hacking - you've seen it here with members using gmail - even with a strong password.
It really depends on the desktop client and the web based client. For my Gmail account and TheBat I have it set up for IMAP, but it doesnt sink anything. An email that goes to my Gmail comes straight to my desktop client and is gone from Gmails server.
Hi Carver Yes, i know the differences but was just pointing out that one isn't more secure than the other and in Dragon's case - pop would be fine if he isn't syncing with the server.
I use webmail as a back up for my mail Thunderbird and Mailbox, I used inbox.dud . Well their mail server goes down very often like once a day, it rarely stays up for 2 days straight lately. So last night I dropped it, all I have left is gmail, I am looking to replace inbox with a more dependable and secure service.
Been with Thunderbird ever since I began using Charamel theme for it (it complements Firefox which is wearing Charamel too). Previously Outlook... but it took ages and was slow. Now I use Thunderbird for all emails and Google apps and it works great. I've used POP Peeper in the past and its excellent too.
I use MS Outlook Express as my default Email system with Thunderbird as an option. OE has done me proud for years without any trouble, efficient and reliable, but Thunderbird is very good. I sometimes switch the default, both are great. I have a liking for Thunderbird, but as OE gives no trouble tend to stick with it. John B
Mahogany. Lite, configurable, low-frills and bloat-free. And a good old .cfg file, no install needed. When my system went into the shop, I had the mail on a backup ext. drive and it took about 2 min. to get my full email back up on an alternate PC. I've tried TB off and on (and do support it for others) but have lost patience with v3.
I will change my OS (Windows XP to Windows 7). As Ootlook Express is not supported by W7, i need a substitute. I don´t like Windows Live Mail. (Hate it) I tried Thunderbird but i don´t like it either. May you sugest an eMail client the most identical possible to OE? Thanks. PS: I wondered abot Outlook but i have lots of messages in OE and i think Outlook can't support all the messages i have in it.
