settings explaination?

Is there somewhere I can get details on what each setting is going to look for and the potential for any conflicts if certain items are deleted. I can't seem to locate such a source.

Currently, a help file is being worked on, and is not yet included with the program.

However I'd be glad to provide you with some basic information on many of those items that do not have a "?" button beside them :

Internet Explorer Typed URLs
-These MRUs are used in the drop-down list in the IE address bar. They are included as they are not removed when your history/temporary internet files are deleted. Deleting these items will typically not cause any noticable difference, as the same items will still be in the History, and will be shown in the address bar drop-down list. (This could be used to easily discover the last 30 or so addresses you typed into IE.)

Windows "Run..." Dialog MRU
-The items shown in the "Run..." dialog in the Start Menu (drop-down list). (NOTE: This list, in Windows XP at least, may also display the contents of your IE history, which is not cleaned by MRU-Blaster - an optional plug-in may eventually be created to do this, however.)

Windows UserAssist MRUs
-May contain various data, such as files you have opened/created/saved/edited. On Windows XP, this is used for the list of "recent" items in the new "smart Start Menu". If you like this list of items on the Windows XP start menu, it is recommended that you uncheck this option (this may also affect a similar "recently used programs" feature in Windows 2000).

Windows Stream MRU
-Like the UserAssist MRU, this may contain various data, such as files you have opened/created/saved/edited. On Windows 9x/ME, you may find deleting these entries can reset "folder view" settings that you have customized per-folder to the overall defaults (on some systems).

Windows Network Items
-Another list of recently used items, except in this case it keeps a list of recently accessed network shares. Removing these MRUs should cause no problems, and they do not have many uses within Windows.

OVERALL NOTE: Conflicts are rare - all items are tested on various system configurations and many computers before being included in MRU-Blaster (see the few notes in the item descriptions above). Since MRU-Blaster covers many more items than shown in the Settings screen, it is recommended that you "Show Results" after your first scan, and glance through the list to see what MRUs will be cleaned (you shouldn't encounter any issues if you don't - MRU-Blaster is set up to allow a simple and safe Scan and Clean - but you sound interested in the items it detects, and you may find it useful).

I appreciate the info. What about the install locations? What does this affect?

I've been cleaning out my registry manually for certain items for quite some time & am glad to have a program like this to speed up the process.

Too bad there isn't a way to modify your data base for programs we use to clean out the mrus they leave behind (this in Not a criticism, rather a "wish" item for an already great program!)

I realize if one doesn't use the default install location (which I rarely do in that I keep my program files on an ntfs part & my data files on a fat 32 - so I have access to them thru a dos boot if it ever becomes necessary)with my os on a separate ntfs part. This of course means I'
ve got mru all over the place in the registry.

Also, I didn't realize there was more than one registry mru kept!

You shouldn't see any difference if these Install Location MRUs are removed or not - they are simply an MRU list of the last install locations you used for various programs (not used by those programs for their functionality, of course). It is possible, although not confirmed, that they are also used on some systems for the drop-down list of folder locations in the "Add a New Driver Wizard" - however I have not seen this behavior on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4 ,2000 and XP systems that I tested it on. In any case, removing these should, at worst, remove those drop-down lists of folder locations - and the Install Location MRUs aren't located on many systems anyway.

There is the possibility that such a feature will be added in the future, and users will be able to manually create their own MRU-Blaster "blaster rules". However, no date is set, and it is not set in stone.

Finding all of them takes quite a while, manually.
