I just noticed that if I open a second window...the second window bypasses my security...fe: proxy.....blockers etc... now this does not seem like normal behavior to me...in fact I don't recall this happening previously........sure seems unlikely that I would have not notice a hole this big. broswer is IE....supposedly patched...with M$ who knows. any suggestions appreciated

have located the reason for this problem....in fact I even warned others to be careful an forgot about it afterwards.....it happens when I lower my security to login here at the BB....an then access a link posted here at the BB.....this is the only time it happens......I don't know if this is happening to others here.....but without any doubt its happening to me............

it may sound strange to some...yet I am actually grateful this hole revealed itself.....an have since..it appears..plugged it..........
its cases like this that can be used to further enhanced the security.....this hole should never have existed...an had it not been revealed now..it may have been revealed under much less nicer conditions.......

    snowman,

I'm not sure what you are telling here. If you do click a posted link leading to a different URL outside this board, the behaviour you describe is by no means a "board hole".

In case you are pointing to something else, please post.

    regards.

Hi snowman. I thought you meant there was a hole in your IE security, not on/with the BB. More details and how you did plug it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

*sorry for taking so long to reply..only just notice that others had responded ***

    Paul

frankly I was at first confused by your post....then after re-reading my previous post I think I understand........no, this is not a "board hole" nor did I intend to imply that it was...although my post could imply such.....a poor choice of wording on my part. It would be correct to say that its a "personal" problem.....certainly the board is not responsible......hope that clears any confusion.

as you may already know Paul......to login and post I need to lower my security.....disable my proxies....doing so then allows scripts at other websites to load.....referrers are no longer blocked...url's no longer filtered.....etc..etc....I have noticed that others using proxies can post without problems....which only shows that differant "lists" are being used.........but again..this is not a board hole........its easy for someone reading a post to forget..an click on a link...thats just normal human nature.....but once again thats not a board hole.....its a personal error...
certainly...definitely there was a major security hole that need to be closed ON MY COMPUTER.......here at the BB the mods do a great job of carefully watching for bad links...but I am not always here at a security BB.........an if my computer has a security hole than clicking on a link at another website could cause problems.........a few changes in my settings appears to have plugged the hole.....
furthermore... imo a person should not rely totally on any one security program but instead have programs that compliment each other......an as such disabling my proxies no longer leave a security hole....it never should have...an now opening ten windows wont bypass my security.......an thats how it should be.
no Paul this wasn't a board hole.....sorry if my wording seems to imply that........it just happens that when here its the only time I have ever lowered my security....an so I noticed that I had a problem.....
    have a pleasent weekend

Snowman, if you are lowering your security settings to come to this board, then i'd suggest there is a much better way of doing it, and that is to put the site in the list of Trusted Sites. I do this for this board and other BB's.
This offers the advantage of not having to alter security settings for other sites not included in the Trusted Sites Zone

thanks for the suggestion.....I have already tryed that plus numerous other work-arounds....none of which has worked.........eventually I'll locate whatever the source of the problem is......your suggestion worked well with the old BB server.....but not with the new server

** un-related to post to Mickey

Perhaps I should clarify further so that this does not become a salty issue by having the meaning mis-understood...........I have many times in the past and present faced this situation before......its not un-common nor un-expected that a particular "block" list would prevent a person from being able to properly use a website...or even totally denie access to a website.......it can happen even at the most secure websites.....just as easy as it could at the worse website......my case is rather unusual in the sense that even disabling the block list does not cure the problem.......this makes it alittle more difficult to locate just what is causing the block......
in the mean time as I stated recently to Paul...I will post as Snowy(un-registered) or snowman(registered)..until the issue can be resolve on my computer........also as previously mentioned my other security programs are covering.....an if anything I will increase security until I can find a workable solution
again....this issue has no refection on this BB...its the setting on my computer......numerous times I have stated to several people here at the BB that its highly un-likely anyone else would experience the results I am having.....its a particular os related problem.......obviously anyone can clearly see by my past post that I have no objection to loging in and posting when my proxies are disabled......at other times like right now when I am traveling the internet I leave the security up an post as snowy.... hey it works for me LOL

Now here is the problem that occurs when I am using a proxy......because I don't want to cause any confusion I an posting it here to keep it all related hopefully....an so as others will fully realize that its not a board problem

ok,,,I just replied to Mickey....I know the reply was posted....but on my computer it does not should as even existing.....I could be here until the sun burns out an that reply will never show on my computer unless I close my broswer...re-open and return here..then the post will show..
as anyone can clearly see this is os specific....an specific only to my os.........if and when I locate the source of the issue and correct it..I will then no longer need to disable my proxies..........really kinda simple huh...

Snowman - Have you got Java and Javascript totally blocked? ActiveX? Have you tried going back and looking at your settings in the 'Trusted' Zone, to make sure that they allow that stuff?

You know, if you have the time, you really ought to check out either OutPost, TTT or that other sandbox app (I really can't remember its' name at the moment, sorry).

If you could learn to use one of those to configure your settings for each and every site you visit, you wouldn't have to worry about a spill-over effect anywhere else.

    Waddaya' think? Pete

java in trusted zone runs in sandbox......other than cookies nothing else allowed.......this is not an option for me Pete due to the nature of my business
perhaps you noticed in my test posts that I partially resolved the problem.......however there remaining a caching problem.....can't view my posted replies without first clearing history and cache.......
so as not to become irratated I am going to leave this alone for awhile.....I don't want to offend anyone due to being irratated....an twice already I nearly did so....an thats never been my intention.

Don't know what to tell you, snowman. I know we'll eventually get all the new board glitches worked out, I just don't know when.

I'd suggest using a separate browser (such as Netscape 4.7), setting this as the home page, getting it to where it works right here - and not using it for anything else but here.

Just cover it with your firewall and AV program and nothing else.

Let me know if that's a viable alternative for you. Pete

thank you for the time you have given this...its been most appreciated............unfortunately I am not feeling at all well today.....needed more rest than I've been getting apperantly.........will place a few business orders than try for alittle sleep....

in reply to your question...Pete at the moment I want to sit back an give this matter alot of consideration.....in my exhusted state it would be foolish for me to make any decisions.......in the mean time I'll post un-registered....an not complain..........this has been far to time consuming at a time when I am trying to re-cover from a major illness.....an I don't want to end up back in the hospital....
well buddy....going to rest no......hope you have a pleasent day
