Apparently Windows update KB3088195 is the one that broke running Chrome under SBIE. According to this sticky post, sandboxing Firefox is affected as well. A fix is in the works. In my personal case, I take a while before installing Windows updates so I haven't experienced any issues sandboxing Firefox.

Thanks for the helpful info, Bo. I experienced the broken Chrome messages...
... and immediately uninstalled 3088195, which gave me back a fully functional Chrome in SBIE.
    Again, my thanks!

I also have the same error in addition to the frequent crashes during google chrome startups. That was the first time I purchased any license online and I hate how I have to always clear the sandbox and try multiple times before the browser actually launches. I'm running Windows 10 x64 with no security software besides on-demand scanner Zemana.

You can workaround the token error by uninstalling KB3088195, and reinstalling the update after Sandboxie releases a fix (should be soon). To fix your crashes, perhaps deleting the sandbox every time you close the browser is the fix. I think you should try doing that. And create a new sandbox for Chrome, the old one might be corrupted.

I realize you dont like deleting the sandbox but you have to do it sometimes, specially after you upgrade your browser. If you dont frequently delete the sandbox and you run an upgraded browser in a sandbox with contents of the old version, you ll have problems.

It must be the same issue I'm experiencing Page. This is my post on the SB forum:
Today I've updated Chrome to version 46.0.2490.71m and can't launch it with SB 5.05.1. I should also add that before updating Chrome I had updated Windows with the monthly updates (Tuesdays updates). I wonder whether Chrome's or Windows' updates are responsible for the issue.
    Windows 8 (64 bit), SB beta 5.05.1
Attached is the error message generated by SB when trying to launch Chrome.

    Best regards

I updated Chrome to latest a few hours ago. SBIE is the official 5.04. I have not applied the latest windows updates.
    Chrome works fine with SBIE.

So I think the culprit is windows update, at least in big part, in breaking your sandboxing.

Hi Osaban, its possible more than one update causes the issue (MS locking down the security token much earlier than before), Invincea its working on confirming the actual updates that cause the issue for each OS.

Uninstalling kb3088195 worked for me using Win7 64bit, Sbie 5.04 and SeaMonkey browser.

Thanks all for heads up on KB3088195. So far I haven't installed any of the Windows updates. Will wait until Sandboxie updates to correct this problem.

Hello guys, I need a clarification about sandboxie operation:
if sandboxie is set to NOT delete the virtual area to closing, what happens if the program will be closed but a malware running into virtual area?.... is 100% sure that everything running will be "killed", even if the virtual area is not deleted?

Thats what I am doing Wolf. Like always, to avoid issues like the one affecting Sandboxie and perhaps other software as well, I always wait days or weeks before installing Windows updates. In the end, all important updates get installed and never experience issues afterward or have to hide updates that are considered important by Microsoft.

The malware gets terminated, its not running anymore. But probably will run again when you get something going in that sandbox again. If its a malicious addon it hijacks your browser and will run when you run the browser. I think the proper thing to do is delete the sandbox if you know malware is inside the sandbox.

    Hi Osaban,
I'd say without a doubt (on my 7x64 machines) that the blame falls with MS. I updated MS before Chrome and the SBIE problem showed up. Then I uninstalled KB3088195 and Chrome/SBIE functioned normally. Then I updated Chrome to 46.0.2490.71.
    Cheers

Brummelchen, if you have installed Octobers Windows updates and you are not experiencing issues running your browsers sandboxed, then your case its pretty unique. I have the feeling that Flash is into the mix. Perhaps you dont have Flash installed in your PC, that could be why you are not getting the token error.

I dont install Flash in my W7 and havent installed Octobers updates so I cant confirm that is the case but flash being installed or not installed might have something to do with the token error.

Bo, I went ahead and installed the notorious windows update KB3088195 to see what kind of error message I would get from sandboxie. I ran FF both with flash activated and non activated. With flash activated and tried to play a word jumble game which requires flash I got the error which shows below. I also tried playing some videos and they would play OK in HTML5 format but not with flash activated so it is definitely a flash plugin problem. Bottom line form is I can play a movie in HTML5 format but not with flash in Sandboxie.

Zapco, let me add something. To make sure nothing/malware is running in the sandbox, look in Sandboxie control. If you dont see nothing there, then all programs in that sandbox have been terminated. Be aware, malware that runs in one sandbox can see whats going on in other sandboxes.

Yes, that kind of confirms what I am thinking. I am pretty sure Invincea will read your post above but perhaps you ought to tell about your experience in the sticky thread I linked earlier today.

Posted there. Looks like others at Sandboxie forum have recognized the Flash problem also. (Apologies at the Sandboxie forum for the attachment coming up so large. lol) Got my mind on the big game this afternoon.

bo - idd i didnt made my updates today or yesterday. but i would always prefer a secure system instead a buggy 3rd-party software, either magnificent sandboxie or not, does not matter. users who rely only on such concept will always fail, its time to think about and to make changes.
a secure system itself is bias of all! (for me)

It makes sense, since you havent updated Windows (like me), we dont get the error.

By the way Brummelchen, the issue is due not because SBIE is buggy but because (I quote Craig, who told me in PM) "...MS is locking down the security token much, much earlier than before and thus, SBIE cannot access it & it's causing access denied. MS has added dozens of new lines of logic code pertaining to token in this update."

I get from your posts a very arrogant attitude, like thinking always the baddest of people. In this case you should have read and got into know the situation, before you posted any. And your preaching just seems to continue.

Sometimes it is idiot browser or idiot this or that. I think you should really watch your language a bit.

I do apply my windows update patches a week or 2 after they have gone available, not the second tuesday of each month (wednesday always here).
