"Zone Labs is looking for more beta testers. To entice you, we're offering free prizes.

All official beta testers who submit REPRODUCIBLE bugs are entered into a raffle. In June, two entrants will be chosen at random, and each will receive a $500 gift certificate from Amazon.com.

To receive information on how to become a beta tester, send an email to betasignup@zonelabs.com

We hope you join the program. Thanks!"

           Greetings Corey

On or about February 20, 2002 we exchanged brief greetings.  At the time you impressed me as being a very nice person.  In light of your need for beta testers may I invite you to personally give the members here a visit.
Realizing that the very nature of your employment must keep you rather busy....your arrival here would be even the more appreciated.  Since you have taken of your time in the past to visit other websites perhaps you can find a spare moment yet again.

                             Sincerely
                             Snowman

Unlike zzz7 I'm not going to dis zone labs. but I'll pass.
If you were to offer a system to use and maybe an upgrade for mine I may venture down that road again. Otherwise I couldn't stand the hassle.

Only under rare circumstances will I beta test software.   All to often beta testers are used by vendors an given nither the respect they deserve nor reward.
its becoming an alarmingly common practice these days for vendors to disguest beta programs as freeware.   then after using consumers like a herd of ignorant cattle....for beta testing...suddenly the freeware becomes shareware.  imo such vendors should be blacklisted....an avoided.  the product should be monitored for name change....an never purchased.
zonelabs.....no matter what a person's opinion of the firewall....has provided consumers with a firewall who would not otherwise be using a firewall....as have several other firewall vendors......nearly all these vendors provide freeware and shareware versions...so at least they give something back to consumers.
one point I would make clear.....a polite invitation has been extended to zonelabs.....in the event its declined then I personally will see that as saying they do not feel the members here deserve the respect that zonelabs has shown other security forums.....
people have questions....people have rants...an if zonelabs wants to maintain its market share then it needs to hear what the consumers have to say...pro or con.............don't insult consumers with offers of raffles and prizes.....exploits cost much more than $50 in lost sales....so zonelabs if you want beta testers how about alittle in return.......some respect would be a fine start.

    Hi Gang

I have not had that "Beta Testing experience at all with well known venders such as Intuit, Symantec, and Executive software, and yes The LockDown people.
With most of those I test for I get the released software sent when the beta cycle has been completed.

I even got a cool gold plated letter opener from Symantec. I am proud of that one.
