Recovery CD

I have purchased TI 11 and backed up full image, and also normal back up of my PC on to external HD. My OS is Windows 2000 XP Pro, with SP2. Could somebody tell me what a recovery disc is, and if I need to make one, easy step by step guide on how to do it.

Yes , you need a recovery disk. Look under tools, put in a blank disk and just keep clickimg Next

A bootable recovery disk allows you to recover data if your computer won't boot. Most people also use it for HD disk recovery.

There are many threads containing this and more information. This is a fairly sophisticated piece of software so being well read is a plus. Also see documents in GroverH's signature

I did as you said, and after clicking "Create Bootable Rescue Media" it says at bottom:-

"Note: If you purchased your Acronis product on CD, the product CD is bootable and you can run the product from the CD."

so does this mean I already have a recovery disc, as I have the product CD?.

Yes, the CD you have is the installation CD as well as the Recovery CD but it may not be the latest build, which is 8101. To get the latest build or future builds, register your purchase on the Acronis website.

 

Yes, the installation CD does double as a recovery disk but it might not be the latest build. You can go here to see the latests builds.

If you register your Acronis software you can download the latest builds and create an up to date recovery disk.

It is best practice to keep both the recovery disk and the Windows program current because of fixes and hardware compatibility.

Yes, but...

Your retail purchase may not be the most current build. Open TrueImage Home and click on the help options at the top right menu. Click on the about option and the build number for your purchase should be located at the top of the screen. The most recent build for version 11 is 8,101.

If your build number is the same as 8,101, then simply make another copy of your purchased CD and use it as your work copy. You will be using the Rescue CD for many purposes.

If your build number is not 8,101, then visit your personal login page where you registered your purchase.
Download the 8,101 update which is free to all version 11 registered owners.

Un-install your retail purchase and install the 8,101 update.
Create a new Rescue CD and begin use that as your Rescue/Recover CD.

 

You don't need to delete the backup images. The new build will still work with them. Just uninstall your old build and install the new one. Then create a new recovery disk.
