Yet another great release from Puppy :thumb: I'm always blown away by how much faster things go when using one of these lightweight distros :)

    i tried it yesterday.

    i was really impressed.
i have been trying distros over the years and it is the first time i have sounds when entering the desktop.
the puppy almost gave me a heart attach when i heard it bark. lol

i'm thinking about using a live CD for doing online banking.
i like the integrated firewall which is easy to setup.

LOL! Too funny. The same thing happened to me and it still sometimes catches me off guard and my heart skips a beat because of it :D

    hahaha! :D

    anyway,
i'm still stuck at a resolution of 1024 x 768 and there's still a little bit of crackles when i play music files, but otherwise i'm really impressed.

if i ever resolves those 2 issues i might seriously consider replacing Windows 7 with this.

i'll check into this when i have the time.

I'm not sure about the resolution, but as for sound it could be the wrong settings for Alsa were applied. Maybe try re-running the Wizard for it and choose something different.

ok, so i got the resolution fixed.
i did not know you had to use the arrows to select the resolution at boot times. :D

i'd never thought i could listen to music while using Linux! :)
still some very minor glitches with the sound, but i'll look into this later.

i like this better than any other distros i've tried!:thumb:

Good to see you got the resolution fixed :thumb: It's early still for me, so I'll have to use it a while longer to gain a better feel for it, but I'm thinking it could almost be a mainstream distro, it's that good. If you're ever looking to try one that is stable, intuitive, full-featured and lightweight for dual-booting with Windows, Mint 11 is worth a look. This is, not surprisingly, another great distro.

BTW, I've had few issues with sound using most distros I've trialled; it's usually video or wireless networking that's given me the most problems when using Linux.

You might want to take a look at Parted Magic if you're looking for something that offers repair or maintenance utilities.

i am surprised it runs this well and fast off a cd.
maybe Puppy will help me slowly learn this Linux stuff.

i tried Mint 11 but the sound was not working 'out-of-the box' like Puppy Linux does.

It might be a checkbox that needs to be enabled for sound to work. I seem to remember having to do that with earlier releases.

Puppy will boot even faster if you create a location to either a USB drive or hard disk location for saving your settings. This is nice because you won't have to keep re-applying all those settings that you want to maintain between re-boots.

This is the first time I tried live cd with Linux. Wow this Puppy is fast! Faster than my Win 7. Don't know how to install plug-in for Youtube but I could hear the Puppy barked after booting so I guess the sound might be working minus flash plug-in. Puppy could be my way into Linux in the near future. Tried Ubuntu but it gave me vertical rainbow colour lines instead of BSOD. Could not boot up properly with live cd. Have been putting it off for sometime learning Linux but after I suspected Zbot infestation on Windows 7 and using BitDefender Rescue CD to boot from live cd I will now endeavour to learn Linux slowly.

    @chew,

this works. You just need to extract the download first to an easy-to-navigate-to location first. Terminal runs root as default so no need for "sudo" in the command.

Thanks for the info. Looks rather complicated but I guess I need to start somewhere so will look at it again. Oh ya ... keyboard seem to go a bit slow or stuck in a particular key during Puppy live cd.
