Anyone know if there is any difference in performance between running just the AV vs. Smart Security?

I don't know if there is a side-by-side comparison of resources used between the two.

But, ESS contains the NOD32 AV engine. They run the same AV components, but ESS also has a Firewall, Spam and spyware protection. So, ESS will undoubtly use a little more resources. But I've run both of them on multiple systems and networks and the difference isn't major.

Eset does a great job of minimizing resource usage when possible.

i just replaced eset with nod, simply because i have a router and don't get on with software firewalls, never used one before and didnt have any problems. both v2 and v3 nod also have spyware protection and email protection. so the only difference is firewall and spam. on both my xp and vista pc's nod32 v2 uses half the ram of v3 i cant see any major reason to use anything more than v2 for my needs really. the resource difference between smart and v3 is hardly noticable.

    Hello,

you won't see difference between performance of EAV and ESS (it's too small on today's computers), but you will see higher level of your protection with ESS. :)

    Regards

Curious if anyone knows why they'd have trouble with an ESS install. My PC just want to reboot. Once I uninstall it the problem goes away.

As said Kosak, the difference in performance is not great in modern computers, but the difference in the level of protection is great. ESET NOD32 Antivirus contains antivirus and antispyware module, but ESET Smart Security contains antivirus, antispyware, antispam module and Firewall. The level of protection which provides ESET Smart Security is much greater. ESET Smart Security is the future.
