It says audio service is not running. Also when I try to turn it back on the volume icon is greyed out and I can't do anything to turn it on. :'( How can I fix this? Restarting didn't do anything. That was my first response.

I would just uninstall and reinstall the audio driver.

Troubleshoot found nothing. How do I uninstall/reintall the drivers? Never did any driver stuff before.

In "device manager" under "sound, video and game controllers" you will see you audio card/chip. Double click on it, go to driver tab and at the bottom is the option to uninstall the driver. Be sure to check remove previous driver if the option appears. Make sure you have the installation disk or an .exe for your audio drivers on hand before you attempt this procedure. After this you just reinstall your audio drivers.

Also check in services that Windows Audio service is started.

If it will not turn back on runs an sfc (system file check)

Odd thing is I DO have sound. 0_o I just can't get the darn thing back on the tray and its grayed out when I went to check on it. Ran Checkdisk and it closed when it finished so I could not really read what it said.

There's an entry in Event Viewer saying what was found and done.

Try this: Clean the icon cache and restart explorer.exe.

I've found rebooting solves a lot of problems - particularly task bar icons that don't load properly. Glad you got it fixed.

Thing is I restarted before and nothing but a turn off/turn on fixed it.
