I actually switched back to Linux b/c of Linux Mint 13 w/ Mate :) I started using it a couple of days ago and don't plan on going back to Windows 7. You can change the bottom menu bar so it has "Applications Places System". To me, Linux Mint 13 w/ Mate is like Debian but with more modern software. Ironically, Linux Mint Debin is less like Debian. I bet that the next Linux Mint Debian will have Mate as its DE.

I think Linux Mint is learning from the mistakes of Ubuntu. Ubuntu tries too hard to be fancy and artistic. Linux Mint 13 w/ Mate makes the Linux purist feel as though Linux is back on track. If you like a simple, basic Linux then Linux Mint 13 w/ Mate is your best choice.

just gave this a try tonight. the Cinnamon version 32 bits.

i tried the Mint Debian Edition a couple weeks ago.
i thought it was pretty good but had a problem with it because it did not include support for x686 duo core 'out of the box'.

anyway, this new release does support x686 processors so that's nice.

    i tried the 'Stellarium test'.
i was surprised that it is slightly faster than the Debian edition.
i got framerates of 55 fps vs 45 for Debian.
    so another nice surprise there.

i like this a whole lot better than Ubuntu, the performance is much better, and the interface doesn't look like a kid's toy. lol

i'm gonna try this a little more over the next few days.
i am still having problems with resuming from Suspend but it's nothing new for me with Linux distros.
probably my machine is too old.

all in all, a very nice release.

Installed it today and like it more than Ubuntu also. Cinnamon is just really nicely done. Everything seems very stable, no issues at all, no bugs seen yet. Going to stick with it for a while, and see how it goes.

    No complaints.... :thumb:

    More accolades: https://www.zdnet.com/blog/open-sou...nux-mint-13/11110?alertspromo=&tag=nl.rSINGLE

Though it's odd that this hasn't been fixed yet: "The one quirk here is that after you install the program from the Software Manager the screen doesn’t show it as being installed. You need to leave the program installation screen and come back to it before you’ll see that your software was indeed installed. It’s not a big bug, but it’s a bit of a nuisance and I can see someone thinking they really hadn’t installed a program when they’ve actually done so."

I experienced that with Katya and, apparently, it's still there with Maya.
