Potential Surface Go 2 hits the FCC
This could be yet another clue that a Surface Go 2 launch is imminent in the coming weeks

Anew FCC filing spotted by Windows Latest could be evidence that the Surface Go 2 is almost here. The filing, which was published this week, references the same "EV2" codename that appeared on Geekbench scores that were said to be for the Surface Go 2. It also sports the model number 1927.

There's no explicit reference to the Surface Go 2 name, but we're largely expecting the follow-up to the original Surface Go to debut sometime this spring. We're expecting the smallest member of the Surface lineup to potentially launch alongside a Surface Book 3 as well.
The FCC filing comes as retailer listings for what is presumed to be the Surface Go 2 and Surface Book 3 were spotted at European retailers over the weekend.

As for what we're expecting with the Surface Go 2, recent reports have suggested that it will come with an Intel Pentium Gold processor.
There may also be an Intel Core M option available. Both processors seem reasonable given the Surface Go's position at the entry level of Microsoft's lineup.

Back in January, we reported that Microsoft’s upcoming Surface Book 3 will be powered by 10th gen Intel CPUs and NVIDIA GPUs. Today, various SKUs of Surface Book 3 got leaked online from dealers in the Europe. Like the current generation Surface Book, Surface Book 3 will be available in 13-inch and 15-inch variants. Also, Surface Book 3 will be available in two different CPU options, Intel Core i5-10210U and the Intel Core i7-10510U.

The Surface Book 2 only supported up to 16GB RAM. Based on the customer feedback, Microsoft will allow consumers buy the Surface Book 3 with 32GB RAM.
On the storage front, there are no surprises, consumers will have choice to select up to 1TB NVMe SSDs. The pricing of the Surface Book 3 lineup will start at 1000 Euros and will go up to 4000 Euros for the top-end model.

The most surprising part of the today’s leak is about Surface Book 3’s GPU. This new leak claims that Surface Book 3 will have optional Nvidia Quadro GPUs instead of Nvidia GeForce GPUs.

In about a month, Microsoft will unveil the next generation of its year-old, entry-level, the Surface Go. Design-wise, Surface Go 2 may not come with any significant improvements, but there’ll be minor changes including a slightly larger display and the possibility of thinner bezels also cannot be ruled out completely.

The Surface Go 2 would be the most mobile tablet Microsoft has ever produced. I’m told that the Go 2 supports both LTE and WiFi 6, and we do have enough evidence to back this claim.
According to European retailer listing, Surface Go 2 may come with 11-inch or 10.5-inch display, which is moderately larger than that of its predecessor.

The resolution of the Surface Go 2 is likely to be 3:2, which is consistent with other Surface aspect ratios and the device would be able to pump out a bright light.

We already reported about Surface Go 2 variant C3K1927 appearing in FCC certification and now in an interesting development Surface Go 2 marketing name has appeared in the Canadian certification. The latest Surface Go 2 variant to pass certification is C3K1956 and it refers to the earlier variant C3K1927.

Surface Book 3 may have also passed FCC and Candian certification as the variant C3K1899. While the certification doesn’t reveal much about the device it is clear that it is not Surface Go 2 and since it is a portable device it must be Surface Book 3.
Microsoft is expected to launch Surface Go 2 and Surface Book 3 very soon and now Surface Book 3 and Go 2 variants, specifications, and prices have leaked via some retailer listings.

New certification confirms Intel Core m3 for Surface Go 2

Surface Go 2 with Intel Core m3-8100Y has now popped up in Energy Star certification. It’s also claimed that the Surface Go 2 will feature 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage.
On the other hand, Surface Go 2 with Intel Pentium Gold 4425Y processor may have up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

With Surface Go, Microsoft has created a versatile go-anywhere machine and the next-generation device is also expected to ship with Windows 10 in S mode for consumers. For businesses, Microsoft plans to offer the device with Windows 10 Professional license.
Surface Go 2 LTE with Wi-Fi 6 has already passed the FCC certification and it is expected to be announced alongside the non-LTE variant.

Microsoft is launching its Surface Book 3 today, with a big promise of 50 percent more performance than its predecessor from more than two years ago. There are no big design changes this time around, and there will still be two size options: a 13.5-inch model or the larger 15-inch version. It’s disappointing to not see any design tweaks, but there are some important changes under the hood that should improve performance all around.

The Surface Book 3 will ship with Intel’s latest 10th Gen processors, with the base 13.5-inch model starting at $1,599 for a quad-core Core i5, and the 15-inch version using a quad-core Core i7 processor priced starting at $2,299.

“For designers and professionals who need power, we’re adding the Nvidia Quadro RTX 3000,” explains Robin Seiler, corporate vice president of program management for devices at Microsoft, in an interview with The Verge.

Microsoft’s smallest Surface tablet is getting some important hardware upgrades today in the form of the Surface Go 2. The most significant change is a bigger display: now 10.5 inches, up from the 10-inch panel on the original. That doesn’t alter the overall size of the Surface Go 2, but it does reduce the bezels slightly. They’re not as skinny as the ones found on the Surface Pro X, but they’re certainly nowhere near as big as the original Surface Go from nearly two years ago.

The bigger display also means a bigger 1920 x 1280 resolution (220 ppi), while still maintaining the 3:2 aspect ratio Surface products are known for. Inside, Microsoft has also switched up the processor options on the Surface Go 2. The base model, which starts at $399.99, still includes an Intel Pentium Gold processor, but there’s also a new 8th Gen Core m3 model.
Microsoft is promising 64 percent faster performance on the Surface Go 2 with the Core m3 processor option.

“We also listened to the asks for longer battery life,” explains Robin Seiler, corporate vice president of program management for devices at Microsoft, in an interview with The Verge. “Surface Go 2 has a larger physical battery and reduced power consumption so you have up to 10 hours of battery life.”

All the media outlets seem to agree on almost all the positives and negatives of the device. While the device certainly is better than its predecessor, it still lacks the power to make it stand out as a great device.
In short, the Surface Go 2 is not designed to break records but is for people who either want a great touch experience on a budget or want a budget secondary device to use during travelling.

Depending on who you ask, the latest iteration of the Surface Go might be a disappointment or a perfect upgrade.
For iFixit, though, the Surface Go 2 is a rather significant and totally surprising improvement, making it slightly easier to repair even if it still remains low in the grand scheme of things.

The first Surface Go earned one of iFixit’s lowest scores of one, though fortunately not zero.
That’s why iFixit was surprised to discover that the Surface Go 2’s screen was easily removed with just a little heat and some prying. That makes screen repairs, the most common repair for these devices, easier and potentially cheaper. The black shields that covered sensitive electronics were also more rigid and didn’t bend or break so easily, increasing their chances of reuse.

Compared to the Surface Go’s score of 1, the Surface Go 2 at least goes up to 3 on iFixit’s scale. In addition to having many parts being soldered to the board, the Surface Go 2 also misses out on expandable or replaceable internal storage.

There are no significant design changes between the Surface Book 3 and the Surface Book 2, though Microsoft has redesigned the hinge mechanism to make the process of detaching the screen more seamless.

In fact, the chassis is exactly the same as the Surface Book 2.

This year's model is all about more power. Microsoft went with Intel's 10th-generation 'Ice Lake' processors, rather than Comet Lake. This is an interesting choice.
The GPU got an upgrade too, as it now comes with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 in the 13.5-inch model. Unfortunately, it's still a GDDR5 variant of the GTX 1650, rather than the newer GDDR6 that's in the GTX 1660 Ti that's in the 15-inch.

The model that Microsoft sent me is the 13.5-inch version with a Core i7-1065G7, 32GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD. As with all of the Core i7 models, it includes the dedicated GPU, which in this case is the GTX 1650 with 4GB GDDR5. [...]

Microsoft has begun selling the Surface Go 2 and Surface Book 3 in India. Announced earlier this year, the Surface Go 2 is a refresh for the company’s smallest Surface tablet, while the Surface Book 3 is Microsoft’s most powerful convertible notebook.

Pricing for the new Surface Go 2 starts at ₹42,999 and ₹1,56,299 for the Surface Book 3. Microsoft also mentions in its press note that while the Surface Go 2 will be available to all consumers, the Surface Book 3 is only being offered to commercial customers in India. This sounds odd as the Surface Book series was never solely marketed at commercial users.
