    hey guys, just another question.

I have an Windows ME (I know, I know) laptop. What I did was It sucked so I got an USb ethernet thing, downloaded Firefox, and some other stuff. (already did Ad-Aware scans like 10 times to remove 800 fricking pieces of spyware without def. updates) Now I had done this right before Microsoft would stop supporting ME, so I went to MS Update downloaded some stuff. THe computer stopped working right (coincidentally last update huh?) I had also tried getting ZoneAlarm trial on there just so that I could get rid of any viruses on there. Now the whole system is screwed up. Every 5 seconds I get a message window saying "There was a problem with explorer. Explorer will now shuit down." So I can't even try to fix it.

I was wondering if there was any program like the WinSockXPFix or whatever thing for ME.

    Hello goodgameral.

FWIW, here is a LSP fix for 9X http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

In reading over what apps you want to use, they are just too much for a 9X system to run, and vendors these days consider 9X ancient history and don't bother making sure that they run well on anything but XP.

For instance, why are you trying to use the ZA suite if your issue is viruses? What firewall have you been running?

I don't know what to tell you, perhaps its time for XP.

    Regards - Charles

Restore the system from your latest good backup.

Or, install Win 2000 or Win XP.

My OS of choice. Not the prettiest in terms of UI but arguably the most stable.

Throw stones at me or whatever, but I think ME was a really good OS in its time. It worked way better than Win98SE and a bit better than 2000 on every Pentium PC that I tried it on. That said, developers don't really pay much attention to Windows 9x/ME development anymore, so such problems are inevitable. You may try restoring from the latest backup, but its best that you upgrade to Windows 2000/XP now.

Ran WinMe in a dual config with XP up to 12/04 and l liked it, never gave me trouble.

You and I are definitely a minority on that issue.
