Latest Flash Player: Problem with Software Restriction Policy

Hi all.

Has anyone else who runs a default deny Software Restriction Policy had the Flash Player 11.2.202.228 update cripple their web page loading in IE9 x64? My homepage opens fine, but I then cannot navigate to any other web page. Removing all SRP restrictions corrects the issue.

I've now had to revert to 11.1.102.63

 

I have two Windows 7 Professional machines, one 32 bit the other 64bit with SRP applied. Neither will run new flash version. No problem on Home Premium.

Choice is keep old version of flash or disable SRP so far. Any others seeing the same problem?

 

Can't you check in Event Viewer what/if SRP is blocking something?

 

The latest version adds an updater service. Might look there for the problem.

 

I've found the problem. Looks like SRP can't be applied to DLLs if one wants to run Flash Player. This used to be a known issue with SRP and Flash Player, but was fixed around April last year. Whatever they've done to the new version seems to have brought the problem back again.

 

I'm seeing the same problem here on Win 7 Pro 32bit. Nothing in event viewer, and nothing reported when advanced SRP logging is enabled. IE runs fine under Sandboxie however. A big slow hand clap to Adobe's QA team for resurrecting this bug from the past.

 

Try this:

Add C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil11g_ActiveX.dll to SRP, using hash rule.

You may need to remove the rule and apply it again after every update.

 

Yes the hash rule does serve as a workaround. As you state, it also must be updated after each flash version update. Thus flash runs as unrestricted.

The solution is for Adobe to correct their program, may be a long wait. I've found there was a similar problem back in 2010

Their comment indicates that they are not in any hurry to fix the issue. I will sign up shortly and add my puny voice to the response also

 

Flash version 11.4.402.265 no longer needs this workaround.
