I have read favorable posts regarding Kerish Doctor; I have Kerish Doctor 2020 and was wondering if any other forum members are using this version? If so, would you care to comment on your experience? I am particularly interested in its safety. When I run a scan it finds several problems and I would hate to delete something by mistake. I feel comfortable in determining what I can safely delete but would hate to make a mistake. I feel comfortable relying on CCleaner and believe it to be very safe. Does anyone know if Kerish Doctor is as safe as CCleaner? I will appreciate all replies and would thank you in advance.

Imo CC is not safe. So in comparison KD is much safer. But nothing is guaranteed except multiple backups with multiple programs stored in multiple locations.

By "safe," if you mean "trustworthy" I would place more faith in Kerish Doctor. There's an ongoing track record with CC and its parent company.

If you mean "capable" for their stated purposes, then I would say "both."

Kerish does more optimizing and ventures more into some Windows areas, so there is more potential for things to go wrong if you're unfamiliar. There's more of a learning curve w/Kerish but when I used it, it was very competent.

Over the past few years that I have been using KD I have found it to be excellent for the purpose of system cleanup and monitoring (imho, it is certainly more effective and more reliable than CC). I will typically run KD Maintenance weekly and shortly after most system/application installs/updates. While it is not free, I consider it to be the best of its kind.

I've been using it on six computers for at least 3 years and would not be without it.
It does most of it's work without any action from me but the thing I like especially is that this program and Glary Utilities have let me replace Ccleaner.
I use them before I do my backups.
Very happy with the Doctor. :)

I want to thank again everyone who replied, I appreciate hearing from others with more experience than I have, and I am glad the replies reinforced what I have read. Tomorrow I plan on removing problems found by Kerish Doctor 2020 that I believe safe to remove. I religiously make monthly backups with Macrium Reflect, but I am certainly not an expert with it. But, I am confused with what I saw in the replies regarding CCleaner. I have used CCleaner for a very long time and I have never had any problems removing files it recommended be removed. This makes me wonder what am I missing? I have always reviewed the files recommended before I removed them have I just been lucky? Why isn't CCleaner receiving the support it once did? Sorry to change direction from Kerish Doctor to CCleaner. Again, I appreciate all replies and would thank you in advance.

You might get a kick out of this.
    I use two backup programs.
One of them is Macrium Reflect.
    You do monthly backup?
I do one every day. All six computers.
Why so often? I love to do it.

Kerish Doctor is safer than CCleaner. These days, the registry cleaner in CCleaner has minor issue with false positives, which means that it will sometimes want to delete valid registry keys. It is safe to use CCleaner just for removing junk files, but Kerish Doctor will quite possibly find more junk.

Kerish Doctor won't delete any needed registry keys or files, making it safe to use. I use it in real-time mode, so that it runs automatically in the background, negating the need to run manual scans. I use Kerish on multiple computers and CCleaner on none.

I run KD daily. When I do, I first click "Update." After that, I click "Maintenance" > "Diagnostics Full Scan." After that process is completed I click "Next" then I click "Repair." When that process is completed I click "X" to exit. I have done this daily for over 2 years. My computer always runs clean & fast. Never one glitch. KD is excellent!!!

Windows is able to clean up itself -> cleanmgr

    or cleanmgr+

In case of stupid cleaners you better have a backup!
If you love your windows you better get along without those.

Kerish Doctor is safe to you and will never delete any files and registry keys. I've been using it for 14 years.

Some can cleaners can cause problems. Even the registry cleaner in CCleaner will sometimes delete valid registry keys. However, this is not the case for Kerish.

maybe not automatically. but users will do. I am not totally against but my experience showed me that there is almost nothing to delete or cleanup beside that data which is cleaned up with cleanmgr(+). In case of registry any cleaner is futile, and this will break windows. ok, i tried Kerish in 2015 when it arrived as a giveaway, 5 years ago, software authors maybe improved. but that build was not acceptable at any time, it would have broken my windows 8 for sure. i suggest to try cleanmgr(+) at first, then he can waste his money if he like to Kerish, or Tuneup, or...

It only deletes registry errors it find when running a scan. It doesn't matter if you have it set to run automatically in the background, or if you manually run a scan. In either case, it never thinks valid registry keys are errors. Not that you ever really need to clean the registry. But at least it won't cause problems in this case.

I've been using Kerish for many years and I doubt it could ever cause any problems. I've run it on many different systems and have only ever seen a single false positive from the registry cleaner. It even alerted me a few years ago, when another cleaning program started deleting important system files.

did you evaluate such errors? which tree? examples?
i dont have doubt at your own experience but without an example or a result list i wont say that all those keys are errors. windows in special has empty keys, or keys from updates where folder dont exists any more because they are temporary, CLSID entries which lead to nothing. in the past i dont know any of those cleaners which have recognized such entries correctly. and in case of windows 10 it refuses to delete important keys, whether admin or not, cleaner will find such keys again and again and again and....

Yes I looked at the found errors and found no obvious false positives, such as references to files and folders which actually still exist. Also it doesn't think that references to folders that don't exist are errors. This is important for two reasons. Firstly, as you've noted, sometimes these may be references to temporary folders. Also, some software such as video converters create registry keys which reference folders which are only created when they are needed. Wise Care 365, which is a very popular cleaning tool, is an example of a registry cleaner which unfortunately often will want to delete such registry keys.

I've found that the vast majority of registry cleaners are smart enough to ignore keys that they will be unable to delete. However, almost all registry cleaners with very few exceptions have issues with false positives, meaning that they will sometimes want to delete valid registry keys, which can cause issues.

Idd, some software creates keys for themselves. And yes, wise software is known to trash systems. My last test was 2018 with one oft the endless giveaway - and guess what after I let it's job done? I need to use my image because windows was broken. This way by purpose, also image. And for kerish I had similar experience as I wrote above.

What i will find are path to programs here:
    Code:
    HKCU "Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache"
    HKCU "Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache"
and in the filetype tree for used file types

Sometimes empty trees in hkcu/software or hklm/software - which don't bother. If possible I try software at first in sandboxie and examine the reg hive and create a delete file. My registry file in windows (%windir%\System32\config) exceeds 200k bytes (win10 some more) and we speak about cleaning up 1k, 2k? Peanuts in times with ssd or fast hdd - in special when knowing that windows loads it only once - on startup and no more again and writes it backup only once. The changes in runtime exceed those deletions much more.

about deleting registry keys - windows mark them as deleted (means invisible for user), but they are still present until windows write back the registry files to disc when shutting down.

Ok, I have finished arguing, its up on him to decide wasting (from my view) time with such tools or keep on working.

Kerish is okay, but I've been using Wise Care 365 on all my computers and there has never been an issue. They offer lifetime licenses too, so you may want to consider it.

I have been using Kerish and Wise Care as well couple of years ago. But to be honest I could not say if it made any difference at the end, so I stop using these tools completely.

    Hi

I have bought Kerish Doc today and set it up to my liking but, now it did a scan all by it self and fixed some things without asking me first. How can i take control over that? Can i schedule the scan myself, or inactive it, and how to get a message about the fixes so i can allow or deny them.

I can not find that feature anywhere.

Go to General - in Program Settings and uncheck Work in real-time mode. Once you've done that, it will not longer work automatically in the background and you will need to run manual scans by selecting Full Scan, in Maintenance. With manual scans, you can view the scan results and uncheck anything you don't want fixed or deleted.

I would recommend that you leave it in real-time mode. I use KD on every computer that I use and have always used real-time mode. I've never had an issue.
