I have recently been playing around with the latest release of the Jetico Firewall 1.0.1.61. Everything seems to work pretty well except I've noticed consistent errors upon install in the Event Viewer. The following occurs on several computers on my LAN..

The bc_filter service failed to start due to the following error:
Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.

The bcftdi service failed to start due to the following error:
Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.

More troubling is that for some reason I can't connect to my business VPN after installing Jetico on a certain computer on my network.

I've isolated the problem to Jetico, however I'm not sure how it is stopping it. I have tried allowing all traffic, disabling all instances of the firewall, disabling automatic startup of the firewall, booting in safe mode with network.... What is strange is that the Windows VPN connection doesn't even try to attempt the connection after Jetico is installed. No outbound or inbound traffic or packets whatsoever it seems.

Just for comparison here are the configs of two systems on my network, the one that cannot connect to the VPN, and one that can. They are both connected to the same network switch, with the same network topology. I have configured the same ruleset for (Jetico) for both computers. There are no differences between the two machines in terms of what applications are running.

    Computer 1 Custom Intel 865 Build : WXP SP2 P4 2.4HT 1GB RAM
    Network Devices :
Marvell Yukon 88E8001 Integrated Gigabit Ethernet Controller (Disabled For Test)
Intel PRO 100 S Management Adapter (Connected To Network Switch)

    Computer 2 Custom Intel 865 Build : WXP SP2 P4 3.0HT 1GB RAM
    Network Devices :
Intel PRO 1000 CSA Integrated Gigabit Ethernet Controller (Disabled For Test)
Intel PRO 100 S Management Adapter (Connected To Network Switch)

I'd highly appreciate any help on this matter.

    Cheers
    Fred

I do remember seeing this also every time I installed Jetico here on my Win2k machine. I asked them about it at one point and they had some obscure explanation, but assured me that it was harmless. I believe it just has something to do with the order things got installed and started up first time. It only happens on initial install if I remember right, so I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Unfortunately I can't help with your VPN problem as I don't have that setup/situation here. But I would just disregard the initial error message in event viewer, as long as it doesn't happen again.
