The article in the link is just a replica of the Virus Bulletin June 2005 issue....

    Some interesting results and overall the top 10 fastest scanners were;

    1 AhnLab V3 Pro
    2 Authentium Command
    3 Eset NOD32
    4 McAfee VirusScan
    5 Sophos Anti-Virus
    6 Alwil avast!
    7 Kaspersky KAV
    8 CA eTrust Antivirus (l)
    9 Dr. Web
    10 CA Vet Anti-Virus

I was not surprised with the results for CSAV or NOD as these are well-known fast on-demand scanners. CSAV in particular is a lightning fast scanner. While the slow speeds of both Norman and Bitdefender are also well documented.

But McAfee's performance did surprise me and KAV 2006 will be even faster.

One of the conclusions which the author makes is that Eset's prominent advertisement where they state that NOD is "Up to 50 times faster than competing products" appears to be snakeoil!

If you've not heard about it, it means three things:

    1)Bad AV :p
    2)Unknown/Strange/Not-so-good
3)KAV engine based AV which is undoubtedly good (there are so many out there) :D

We can rule out the third option in this case I think ;)

Actually Avast's new beta is ligher on RAM with all modules enabled, far less RAM use than so called ligh low featured anti virus out there. Avast's boot time scan is actually faster than most out there and boot time is its best feature as well.

AhnLab V3 is Korean-made AV mainly sold in Korea and perhaps in Japan too.
It scans fast and is light on resources but there are better products for similar price.
