Is there a guide on how to setup firewall in interactive mode?

Let's say I have freshly installed Windows 7 x64 and ESS 5. I'm looking for guide or how to's on setting up personal firewall in interactive mode.

For example security wise what would be proper way of setting up rules on svchost.exe and so on.

Is there such guide?

 

If I were you, I'd stick to automatic mode so I won't be bothered by so many questions asking for permission regarding the firewall.

 

That's exactly what I don't want otherwise I wouldn't be here. I would like to know every block or allowance and reason "why" behind it.

There must be some folks that have already figured out basic interactive setup of Eset Personal Firewall on fresh install of windows, aren't there? Or is everyone using automatic mode in this forum?

 

not everyone uses auto but you will have a hard time finding someon who will list EVERY block or allow. and also these will differ from system to system based on a lot of factors. if you are unshure of how to answer imo do more reading on firewall setup or run in auto mode. as far as i know i have not seen a standard ruleset for the firewall. i do not run in auto but as i said it would take hours to explain every pop up you will get in interactive mode..

 

That is why I'm limiting myself to freshly installed windows 7 and looking for comprehensive guide on services and such that are most ambiguous to me. This is more on windows than on firewall itself since firewall is pretty straightforward.

But hey if there isn't any guide I guess I'll have to look elsewhere.

 

Allow every thing as requested in your known good system making rules as specific as you can without them being excessively complex. Learning mode is the easy way of doing this.
Block functions you do not want to happen. This part is more complex as it depends on what normal functions you do not wish to occur which is application and user specific.

As an example svchost.exe is a system process used be windows to access the network, a variety of functions are encompassed so it limits the granularity available to the ESET firewall user. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svchost
