I am having a little quirk with Identity Shield (8.0.1.161). I can have one IE9 window open with multiple tabs but no https connections and then open a second IE9 window (not a tab) with a https connection. The padlock appears on the WRSA tray icon as expected. When I close the single tab window with the https connection, the padlock remains and does not go away, giving the impression (whether true or not) that now all the tabs on my original window (all tabs are http connections) are being monitored by the Identity Shield. This is not a major issue, just confusing at this point because I am no longer sure when Identity Shield is on or off. Is this an unique occurrence on my system or is anyone else having this scenario?

By the way, this is reproducible on my system, Win Vista HP x64, all service packs and fixes up to date...

Have you changed any settings in Identity Shield from the default low for HTTP sites? As for myself I have HTTPS & HTTP set to Max so I always have a lock on the Tray Icon with the Browser open!

I forgot to mention in my original post that if I close all instances of IE9 after this happens, all goes back to the way it is supposed to be (no padlock on tray icon)...

I have both HTTP and HTTPS set to maximum and the lock sometimes does not appear.

Correct, that is not what I am seeing. Once the padlock appears and stays on continuously, the only way to get it back to normal is to terminate all instances of IE9 and then restart IE9.

You can be glad at least you see the padlock :D I am not lucky at all because I never see it using Opera & IE9. It is a long lasting issue on my end, unfortunately the support said it is rather an aesthetic issue and there is no reason to panic unless the Identity shield works  Yeah that's the point. I wouldn't be afraid should I have known that the shield is indeed working. However if the padlock is missing there is no other evidence the shield is engaged and working properly. So every time I go banking online I have no other chance than to believe the shield is up.

I have opened a support ticket a long time ago and even I have been mailing with Joe about this issue but to no avail :doubt: I offered them a remote session but ...

I see you have Vista as well, even if mine is 32bit it might be some common Vista's issue. Hoping the support will be so kind and will take care of the issue.

Opening a support ticket at https://www.webrootanywhere.com/servicewelcome.asp might be helpful.

The same can be theoretically be said about the padlock remaining on all the time. If the padlock is always there, even when it should not be, do I really know whether it is on or off and functioning in the manner it was designed? Like I said, it it still a minor issue (assuming Identity Shield is indeed working properly except for this visual indicator) as this occurs only when opening a new https window in IE9 with a multiple tabbed http window already opened and this can be remedied by shutting down all instances of IE9 and restarting IE9. This only occurs a few times a week so it is not a major concern to me. I just thought I would inform the powers that be of the problem.

If the padlock is showing when it shouldn't be, it is still protecting the system. In that case, it's possible that there's a stray browser process open or some data which was copied out of the browser into another application. In general, WSA is overly cautious about the protection of the system so it may show a padlock more frequently than needed.

    Hi Joe,

Thanks for the reply. Am I then to assume that:
1.) When the padlock is always on, all windows are then in Identity Shield mode?
    or
    2) That only windows with an https connection are in Identity Shield mode?
Of course by Identity Shield mode I mean IS operating in maximum configuration...

    Thanks :D ...

The foreground window and any open HTTPS windows are protected when the tray icon has a lock on it.

I can't find any settings in identity shield for HTTP & HTTPS sites, exactly how do you change settings?

The main WSA GUI then go to Identity & Privacy, click View/Edit Protected Websites and there you can set configuration for HTTP and/or HTTPS sites using the slider.

If HTTP sites are set to maximum then is it relevant what settings the slider is on for Facebook and Twitter?

If HTTP sites are at maximum, other sites like Facebook, Twitter etc. having the protection lower than maximum (i.e. high, medium etc.) are overwritten with the rule of HTTP sites.
