Well, I'm looking around for alternatives to XP. MY current OS (WIN98SE) becomes obselete June, 2003. Costs for my computer's accessories keep going up. I hear a lot of good things about Linux, and some bad. My PC-Users Club is offering Linux with expert support...and I'm interested. Any thoughts? I value the people on this site and your experience has helped before. Thanks in advance.

Another way of going forward without Gnus or Penguins.....maybe......:

If XP is a bridge too far for you (sure is for me!), but you don't want to re-invent the wheel, you may still be able to track down win2k.

Thank you. The links are very helpful and I'm checking on Win2K. This will get me started. I'll keep you "posted" as I progress. Wilders gets my personal [glow=yellow,2,300]Golden Thumbs-Up Award![/glow] Great people! Great site!

mandrake 8.2 is a pretty stable system and realy pretty gui wise. An easier install than any windoze product I swear.

www.mandrake.org (easist of all linux distributions to learn)

more serious users who don't care about gui but REALLY care about security can go here:

    www.slackware.org (warning steep leaning curve)

Hey Prince, definitely consider Win2K. In my opinion it is the only good OS M$ has produced since Windows for workgroups 3.11. I don't think M$ is going to be able to drop support for it for a long time. Don't even want to talk about X(pletive) P.
I've looked at Linux twice and I just can't get into learning a new OS and trying to find programs to take the place of the ones I use. Also, as it becomes more popular, more viruses are going to be written for it, and the security sense of well being will dissipate.
I know, there are those that swear by Linux, Mandrake, Red Hat, etc. New programs are being written all the time and on and on.
Bottom line is, there are many many people like me that just don't want to go thru all we would have to go thru to learn all new stuff.
Win2k SP2 is ultra stable, fast, can be secured easily, versatile, and it will take a long time for M$ to kill it because millions of businesses cannot afford to switch to something else.
