    I have a GUI usability issue/suggestion.
    Running ESS V 5.2.9.1
Win 7 Home Premium (64 bit)

I was making sure that system 2 of a 3 system license had renewed properly. After closing the open window, A popup appeared saying that Avactis needs your attention. . When I opened ESS, there were no warnings on the Home page. Everything was green and said Maximum protection. The license showed the correct expiration date. It wasn't until I opened the Update window that I found that there was a program update to be installed. This user would never have opened that tab. If she had, the program update notice was not obvious.

I suggest that any alert (popup) should be repeated on the Home page (more details?) with a link to the page where the appropriate action can be taken.

    Don

Thank you for the suggestion. I can forward this to our product and development teams. I do have a couple of questions.
What is "Avactis" and how does that relate to your ESET software in this situation?

Is this the Update tab (third tab down from top) on the left side of the main ESET Smart Security window?

And because we all use different terminology, do you mean a virus signature database "Update" or a program update (Check for new version)?

This Knowledgebase article shows the screens and explains the different notifications:
For new version notifications, you can check for new version manually on the Update tab but you'll only be notified on the Home tab with a Program Component Update (PCU).

Substitute ESS for Avactis. My brain was still working with Avactis, a php shopping cart. It's unrelated, my brain just retreived the wrong word.

Yes, we are talking about the same Update link.

When you click that link, the Update page has two areas that attract the eye. The top two, "Update virus signature database" and " Product activation". Both have icons and a section title that is in a larger font size. They both have horizontal rules top and botton that further the sense that they are distinct and important sections of the page. The bottom "section" has no bottom horizontal rule, no icon, and no section tittle. The type is left justified and the whole sense is that the section is not very important. It was here that I finally saw that the available version was newer than the installed version. This fact was not highlighted in any way. I expected to see something on the home page. At the very least, I would have expected the section on the update page to highlight the problem that caused the popup.
