how to save hotmail emails ?

how can i save my hotmail emails to a different local folder or drive. my problem is over many years i have accumulated hundreds of emails all in hotmail, and now i want to save them to a different local folder for backup and security.

I recently did this.

Download and install Windows Live mail.
Setup your hotmail account.
Do a send and receive (could take a while).
Your emails will be now stored in you local profile folder in appdata/local/microsoft/windows live mail/your account name within matching folders as your hotmail account as .eml files.
These are regular files and can be backed up as any file.

It is possible to drag and drop from windows live mail to local folders but i found this paunfully slow and locks up windows live mail ui for large amounts of messages.

by windows live mail, do u mean the same as builtin to messenger or is this a seperate program.

 

The one that can be installed as part of live essentials (where you get messenger from)
