I'm not picky. I'm looking for a manual scan anti-malware and rootkit scanner that has the highest detection ratings and I can handle a few false positives here and there.

    Any ideas?

SAS/Malwarebytes seem to be the most popular as of late.

Thanks for the help. Maybe I can use one of these on a thumb drive like AVZ.

Any of those you mention will be okay. Have a look at a-squared as well. The bew beta version has the full Ikarus AV engine as well.

people often dispute the findings of tests to see which AM has the best detection rate, but I believe a-Squared has come out on top in many and with the new AV Ikarus engine as well, it may prove hard to beat - though, you will get a few FPs with the Ikarus engine.

More then just a few, though thankfully it's still just a beta. On my last complete system scan, it presented me with with 10-20 false positives (I don't think I've ever had a full system scan with v4 beta without at least a handful of FP) and most of those are a direct result of the Ikarus engine seeing as on the same system with A2 3.5 I hardly have any FP when testing. I can live with it though because I do not just accept the result it presents me with, I choose to get both a second and third opinion in addition to checking the files with sites like Virustotal. That said, should this continue with the final product I don't think I'll be renewing my license. I will instead just use their free on-demand scanner.

Yes, the FPs are a pain and all caused by Ikarus. Once they are added to the whitelist, its not much of a prob, but I agree, its not acceptable in a final product

Avira free. Good scanner for all mals.
Consistently rates highest for detecting in most testing sites.( maybe not best remover)
    Add SAS free
+ as good as can be for blacklist style scanners.

I'm not sure, but I think the antirootkit of Sophos is both good and easy to use.
