Recently purchased a Netgear FR114P router which has a built in hardware firewall with Stateful Packet Inspection. Should I be concerned then about having Internet filtering turned ON in LooknStop? Can I just let the router handle inbound traffic while I let LooknStop handle the outbound stuff? And does turning off Internet filtering accomplish that?

    TIA

It is a matter of how much control you want on the systems behind the router running LnS. If you want to restrict outbound applications to specific remote services then you would need to keep the Internet filtering enabled. Disabling Internet filtering stops the packet filter and the ability for rules covering network traffic.

OK..then is there a minimum of rules I can start with and build up from there? LIke would I really need to be running some as extensive as Phantom's rules here with a hardware firewall.

How about just using the standard rules that come with LocknStop and building up from there?

    TIA

Yes, you could use either the standard or enhanced rule sets that come with LnS as a starting point for your own custom rule set. Once you start changing one of these, just remember to use "save as" with your own rule set name so you do not overwrite these defaults and have them to come back to.
