Hmm, that's not like Google to do that purposely. I've used that toolbar in the past, may I inquire as to what if any program you installed that bundled the Google Toolbar with it (it's included with damn near everything these days). I have a feeling if it came with a program, it may have asked you about changing the homepage and you may have missed un-checking the option (just a thought of course).

    Hi minacross :)

    I don't know about - Irfanview
I've never heard of it :doubt:

But as for the Google Toolbar ...
I've been using the Google Toolbar for nearly 2 years now.
    First with XP
    Now with Vista
I've never had any problems with it :)

    In Fact...
I don't know what I'd do without it :doubt:
    e.g.
I use it to check my spellings.
It often blocks Pop Ups that IE7 has missed.
And I love the way I can make buttons for my Favourite Websites :D

Are you sure that came from the google toolbar?

Just had a look and it is a nasty script which takes advantage of a realplayer exploit to download and execute a virus on your system without any interaction. Also lots of nasty flash player exploits etc

Usually those type of pages open when you hit a site that has been hacked and has iframe code in the source.

If you downloaded it directly from IRFanview's website, then no, IRFanview doesn't have any "spying" options to be installed either, so I'm with Baz-kasp, you either already had some spyware/virus, or hit an infected page.

    Hi,

IrfanView is Freeware from Austria, a picture viewer.
Many applications offer a Google Toolbar to install, even PC Tools, so what?
    Don't install this garbage. o_O

    Cheers

    It,s simply radiculous.

I'm with you, I hate it too. Luckily, at least for now, we can easily opt out of it (in Google's case at least). I assume this is done because partnering with Google helps sponsor the programs and keep them free, however, being so easy to opt out, it's not hard to imagine a time coming where it's either a must to install these toolbars or other options to use free software, or, free software vanishes slowly over time.

Or even some hidden data collecting ways incorporated right into these products without any knowledge of user.

Which I'm guessing could be done during an updating process maybe? There's really no telling what some of these already report back. After all, data collection/ad serving is THE hot business at the moment and probably will be for the foreseeable future.
