Anyone else getting a "can't connect" error when running setup? It's not my firewall.

    edit.
I see activation uses Internet Explorer. That ends that.

It looks good - very configurable. I use Total Commander though because it's keyboard driven. Do you know if XYPlorer can be setup to mimic the "F" key assignments of Total Commander (based on the venerable Norton Commander)?

I have been using XYexploer for years,,,its a very very fine program. If you don't at least try it since its available for free at this time you are making a huge mistake IMO.

Actually a person is probably making a bigger mistake by downloading anything from giveawayoftheday.com. That site is far too sleazy to trust anything they have to offer.

That was my thought when the download has to activate via internet explorer, which I stripped out long ago. I suppose I could activate it on a virtual system, log whatever changes it makes, then try to transfer it out. Not sure it's worth the hassle.

I have never had a problem with anything I got from GAOTD or from Bits du Jour, what is it about the site that you find sleazy? I would expect if there was something wrong with the site the software developers who offer their products there would not do so. Or are you suggesting that any product ever offered on GAOTD is also sleazy and should be avoided at all costs?

I've never heard anything negative about Giveaway of the Day, and never experienced any spyware or unrelated applications downloading without my knowledge.
acr1965, have you got any evidence to support your statement?

I was responding to the original post and do not want to get too far off topic in this thread. But I do have personal experience with GAOTD distributing malware (a product distributor acknowledged installing a trojan mid-way through a giveaway and had the GAOTD servers reloaded with the non-trojan version of his software)... and multiple giveaways where they distribute products by sites categorized as engaged in malware distribution such as whitesmoke, etc. There is consistent censoring of user comments (especially early in giveaways) regarding malware concerns about ongoing giveaways, even when the concerns are about sites listed and categorized as malware distribution sites; companies known for forum spamming and vote rigging are regularly featured in giveaways, comments concerning said issues are censored; and GAOTD appears to boost its search results by the use of pornographic search terms (including father daughter ince$t r@pe - these last two words are spelled incorrectly on purpose) and there seems to be no holds barred regarding the porn search terms.

Anyway, a thread more on point is here-

Well thats certainly disturbing,,,,,still, if the product is from a known reputable developer, as is XYplorer then there should be no issue with downloading it.

I will take a look at the thread you linked to and see whats been said,,,mind you just cause someone says it does not make it true, especially on the net, so I will do some further investigation on my own. Thanks for the alert though, better safe than sorry.

I just finished reading the thread you linked to and it is far from convincing, partly, because some of what is discussed is beyond my knowledge, but mainly because there are arguments on both sides of the fence. I add to this my own experience and I come down on the side of favouring GAOTD but I should mention that I always exercise caution anytime, and every time, I do a download. It does not matter if its from GAOTD or CNET. This does not mean that I expect anything malicious when I do a download, its just the nature of the Internet beast.

You certainly are entitled to your opinion but you have failed to make your case I am afraid.

Also, just out of interest, what is the following supposed to prove?

Perhaps I am ignorant of how qoogle works but I would suspect that simply adding a pornographic term at the end of a string of words does not prove that the sites or entities linked to have done this to generate hits. You, the person using the search engine, have to provide the search terms, how having an unrelated term can lead to increased hits is beyond me (but then I am not very knowledgeable about this sort of thing, I am basing my opinion on what seems logical).
