    Hi to all,
    I have had my machine for 6 yrs. and used NPF since day one. (except for a short period of time) I am a NEWBIE when it comes to computer security.
    My boy wants to go on line for the first time. He has no anti-virus (i use NSW also) or firewall. He is also strapped for money. (Hes too proud to take money from his old man.) Is there a personal firewall that is free, that i could recommend to him. The only one ive had any experience with is ZA, the free version. I used it for a short period of time myself, but im sure there are others just as good or maybe better. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    This is my first forum and first post. :)
    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi again Enigma,

    Check out these sites;

    http://virusall.com/downprodfirewall.html

    http://firewallguide.com/software.htm

    Where you should be able to find some useful free firewalls together with those here at wilders.

    Zone-Alarm or Sygate may be the best one for newbies. If he can learn some rules, Kerio is also very good.

    Unlike, AV programs, the free firewalls generally offer good protection compared to the commercial software.

    If you are going to trial several firewalls, it is important to remove ALL traces of previously installed ones, as they do not like each other!!!!
