I installed Smart Security on a friend's desktop machine about a week ago (she is still in the trial period). We now want to remove Norton Internet Security 2007 that came bundled with Earthlink from her laptop and put either Smart Security or Nod32 v3.0 + Comodo firewall on it. Since Eset does not appear to offer discounts for just 2 licenses I think that maybe a more cost-effective solution would be Nod + Comodo on both machines. Are there any negatives to going with Nod + Comodo vs. Smart Security? The desktop gets a lot of use as it's her home office machine while the laptop is used maybe once or twice a day for under an hour each time.

I forgot to note that she uses Outlook 2003 for e-mail.

If it is to be put on one PC only I would go for ESS as its AV and firewall elements work very well and you also enjoy the benefits of an integrated piece of software. If you are putting them on a network I would hang on until ESET sort out the 'View workgroup computers' error' ( It has to be said though that this error is more irritating than serious. )

If you go over to betterantivirus.com a single 1 year license for ESS is $59.99

if you want 2 licenses then its only an extra $10

that looks like a pretty good discount to me (that's where I got mine... no probs whatsoever)

    cheers

I don't know when Nodrog purchased his ESS licenses but now BetterAntiVirus.com is showing the price for 2 at $119.98. I wonder if it was a UK-only special or a sale that has ended. I will try and call them to see if they are flexible on pricing.

I bought a 2 User license for Smart Security on Dec 19 and it was USD$69.99...now I see on ESET's site that the same license is USD$103.99. Wonder why the sudden increas? Glad I got it when I did!

$103 is for two licences for two years. I bought directly from eset as soon as final version of ESS was released.

I used NOD 32 + Comodo firewall for almost a year. Comodo is very intrusive and does not learn at all. I got tired of giving the same permissions for the same programs/sites every time I opened them.

I use NOD32 + Comodo Firewall Pro v3 and it works great for me. Comodo does take some getting used to with the alerts but it was one of the top firewalls in the testing. No total security package is good at everything.

This is what I was going to write today. I thought that Nodrog had gotten a special promotion or sale but Eset calls it the "2-User Pack". I had looked at Eset's "Purchase" page before my post the other day but for some reason thought that since 1 user was going to use SS on 2 machines she would need 2 separate 1-User licenses.o_O :ouch:

    2 user / 1 computer or 2 computers w/ 1 user - both can use the same 2-user pack:

Bad choice of wording going on here people... ESET licensing is per computer.

"ESET" themselves will email you license details which state e.g.
    If you have 2 computers (forget about users e.g. Me, Wife, + 2 kids does not equal 4 USERS!!) then you need;
in betterantivirus speak - ESET whatever 2 user license, or
in eset.co.uk speak - 2 x whatever (Home Edition) Licences for two computers, laptops or workstations

    cheers Nodrog

    Sorry...

so 1 user with 2 computers will need 2 licenses (unfortunately).

    cheers

[unless someones got a link to where the definitive EULA is (the 2.5 version is as clear as mud)]

I called Eset on my friend's behalf last week and spoke to a sales associate. I explained to him that my friend has 2 machines and asked what she would need. He said that the Smart Security (Home Edition) New 1 Year, 2-User (US$69.99), Download (link) would work best for her needs.

The ESET.co.uk pricing structure does appear to be different from North America's ESET.com's. From the ESET.co.uk Purchase page for Smart Security Home Edition, the Description specifies that for £39.99 you get a "Licence for one computer, laptop or workstation." They don't appear to offer a 2-User Pack, as in America.

    Yes they do...

...for £49.98 you get "2 x ESET Smart Security (Home Edition) Licences for two computers, laptops or workstations" - that's 1 license each, for each computer. An America (if you want to call it that) 2-user license is exactly the same thing.

The pricing structure is not different - the uk calls them a license for a computer but the US calls them a user licenses. ESET licenses on a per comuter basis.

At least in (North) America, aka United States, we can save almost US$30 (at today's exchange rate vs. GBP) to get 1 license that works on 2 computers (the 2-User Pack). I have just spoken with a U.S. ESET sales associate to verify this.
