Fake antivirus install

I’ve been redirected to this site several times yesterday and once today (while on Digg.com clicked a link in regards to the Russian curling team.) Prompting me of a virus and the need to down load the fake antivirus. If it needs to be stated “I didn’t”
I’ve recently needed to DL java/adobe only to file forms online. Which was done yesterday and prior to DL them I didn’t have the issue.
They are updated.
I use SS4.2, Windows defender and today I download MBAM and have done scans and nothing shows except a false positive known to MBAM (hijack.displayproperties).
I’ve used sysinspector and the compare logs don’t show any changes.

How can I prevent this from happening again as best as possible? And How might have it happened to begin with?

Hitman Pro may be your best bet. No AV will detect them all, we all know that here from limited personal testing. How to prevent it. Only 2 simple ways. Sandbox your browser or you a program like ShadowDefender that virtualizes your PC.

 

Or use NoScript...

I was reading up on shadow defender earlier today and recently tried Avast and thinking about putting AIS on the machine.
But trying to hold out to V5 of esetSS.

Thanks, an excellent suggestion, leofelix, but a HOSTS File prevents infections from unwanted sites, etc, before they happen
Once the infected machine is cleaned then it would be most prudent to use a file such as this.

I thought his/her computer was not infected since the user stated he/she had scanned his/her system with MBAM, ESET and Windows Defender which found no malware, that's why I suggested him a way to prevent reaching links engaged in malware distribution.
