Hi, I'm test-driving the AV---after what appears to be a successful removal of Norton---and everything has been going great except for a problem with a Java-based program that I've been using for email and chat.

I can run the Java program/Agent Console, but some emails occasionally freeze after I attempt to send them. The text gets grayed out. The clock on the email continues to run but the email just freezes. For chat, I click "enter" for the text that I've typed in the text box, but occasionally it never show up in the dialogue box or it takes like 30 seconds for it to show up. And again the clock on the chat continues to run.

Is this something where I'd just need to allow Java in the AV, or could it be Norton residual stuff? I did kick off the 11-13mb "Live Update" that was left as well as the 11mb Symantec shared/common files folder that had been left. Haven't yet had the chance to see if that has helped.

    Thanks for any input.

    Hello!

You don't mention anything about running the special Symantec Norton removal tool . Download and run from :
    http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Generally you should have no problem but you can try to add Java's program to the exclusion as instucted here:
    http://training.eset.com/kb/index.php?option=com_kb&Itemid=29&page=articles&articleid=560

You can exclude the program's single exe , the whole directory , you can exclude the application from being a mail client or web-browser.

Hey, thanks for the reply HiTech_boy. Just got done reading your informative reply in the "PC freezes" message. Preciate the response. Will include it in the exclusion if it gives me anymore problems.

For Norton, I went the removal route from the add/remove section of my computer. Do you think that to have it completely removed, that you should definitely use the "removal tool"? Just wanted to get your opinion.

    Thanks.

Yes you should use the removal tool since uninstalling norton using add/remove programs will not remove everything.

    Cool. Will do.

Just had a "hang up"/"freeze up" again during a "chat" session with a customer. Will have to look into including the Java program (Instant Service) in the exclusions.
