So far only the German website has the release notes (funny enough, dated 25 July which is in nine days):

    http://drivesnapshot.de/de/news.htm

Using Google Translate I came up with the following translation:

Unfortunately, the Drive Snapshot web site has more than its share of typos. Uncorrected for "years".

It's very strange when you consider how careful his coding must have been, to have so many typos on the website, unless it is a translation problem.
Still good to see these improvements though. Very grateful to him.

Well, I personally prefer an application coded with care rather than a perfectly looking website/strong marketing campaign.

While I also use and love this great little disk-imaging app, I am disappointed that Tom still hasn't implemented a user-friendly 'live' CD for backing up and restoring snapshots! :(

Yes, it's a major failing of DS. Difficult restores for folks not familiar with DOS or BartPE. If you don't have a floppy drive, another speed bump.

Have you seen Markymoo's excellent Drive Snap application? It automates a DS restore.

These updates are very interesting. I haven't used them only glanced yet but it looks quite possible to restore the image to different hardware so in fact do a 'universal restore'. Mounting damaged images is very useful and the possibility to write to mounted images. I was backing up and restoring virtual images fine with Drive Snapshot before this update so not sure what benefit this virtual update will bring yet.

How exactly do you make images 'writable'? That would be a very useful feature, but I cannot figure out how to do it.

You mount the image, then you make the necessary modifications on the virtual drive and when you are finished, you take a new image of the mounted virtual drive.

Okay. That makes sense. Bummmer though; that's not as easy as I thought. The images are nor directly writeable.
