    Hi guys!

I used Zone Alarm 2.6 for maybe 6 months . Liked it alot but just got bored with it after awhile. Especially after hearing about firewalls like Tiny,Sygate which you could configure the rules yourself for higher security. It still is a good basic free firewall for the newbie who doesnt want to mess with rules though.

Used Tiny for just a short time & learned alot from it on how to create rules & learning about ports & protocols. It was a great education . But then the development team from Tiny left & created Kerio. Liked Kerio because the layout & simplicty was the same as the former Tiny one had. Used every beta ver of Kerio now up to 2.14 & love it.

The new 3.0 beta of Kerio is out now but as Crockett has mentioned it isnt yet ready to fly . Its still to early to really use much because it is so early in the beta stage & some functions are disabled yet. When beta 2,3 come out though it should really get exciting.

Kerio 2.14 is still awesome in my opinion for anyone to use yet if you want a really good rule based firewall + its free.

Other very good rule based firewalls to try in my opinion are:

    - Visnetic (author was the creator of Conseal firewall)
    - Looknstop
    - Sygate
    - Zone Alarm plus

Outpost may be good if you want your firewall taking care of cookies, ads, blocking spyware ect. I find programs like Proxomitron, Ad-aware take care of these things just fine plus there free.

    Hi MRBLAZE<

I have two choice for firewalls:

1.) For a free choice try out Kerio at http://www.kerio.com/us/kpf_home.html . It is excellent and the support is great. I used it for several years and IMHO is the best free firewall available.

2.) I recently purchased Look'n'Stop and consider it to be excellent also, although it is not free. You can check it out at http://www.looknstop.com/En/index2.htm . I currently use Look'n'Stop and find the small footprint and support from Frederic to be excellent. There is a forum over at Becky's devoted to Look'n'Stop that Frederic visits frequently http://www.morelerbe.com/cgi-bin/ubb-cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=35&DaysPrune=1000 .

    Hope this helps!!

    Regards,
    Kent

    Tester;

you said you passed the test at pcflank. You mean the stealth test, right ?

How about the other tests on the same site ? Quick test, Exploits, and so on...?

    Crockett

Hi again Crockett.Sygate passed the stealth test, advanced port scan, quick test, and the only thing that failed on the exploits test is my browser.I have some tweaking to do on my browser, which doesn't surprise me.I'm hoping that microsoft has a patch available now or very soon.

I use Sygate Pro. Previously we had Tiny PF until it went crazy on us. I tried Outpost and ZA and finally settled on Sygate (free). We liked it so much I upgraded to Pro a week later.

    http://piorio.supereva.it/backstealth.htm

    http://www.soft4ever.com/security_test/En

    http://keir.net/firehole.html

http://www.grc.com/files/LeakTest.exe You mean this one, don't you ?

http://www.isa-llc.com/downloads/audit.php (with browser open or minimized)

Does it pass the exploits test :

Ticking all tests one by one (do NOT tick select all tests) the result may be different.

I've ben using Agnitum Outpost Pro since MAY of this year! I tried everything else, but this is the only one VERY stable and with VERY Configuarable Active content controls! Very responsive tech support through their forum. The best! And it'll get even better with Version 2 coming out in the near forseeable future. This company LISTENS to it's users!!!
