    My question is twofold.

    1. Is there a known incompatibility between PE and the Freecap socksifier ?

    2. Is it possible to, in a simple way, boot the computer once without Port Explorer but not removing PE altogether of coarse. Some temporary change to the registry or config files. I mean disabling the PE DLL hooks and tricks with the winsocks, not just the user interface.

This for the purpose of testing suspected interactions such as in question 1 above.

The OS is Windows 98 SE.

Hullo ? Someone on the phone ?... I need to disable PE as it (reportedly) conflicts with the Freecap socksifier, want to test whether such is the reason Freecap won't work for me.

    Windows 98 SE.

    Please!

Please, Jason, Wayne... I understand you must be busy, but I kinda think my question worthy of an authorised answer & could help more than one person !

What is the correct way to have all Port Explorer's filters out of the way after a reboot and reenabled at the next reboot ? I'm interested in getting instructions for Windows 98, and I assume other people might like the same for Windows 2000/XP.

    With regards

    Hi Czerno,

Open a command prompt (Start > Run > command > enter) and use this command

    regsvr32 -u dcsws2.dll

You'll get a message that it was unregistered, reboot for changes to take effect.

To register it again to re-enable PE, use this command

    regsvr32 dcsws2.dll

Apologies for being too busy to help you sooner. I'll also take a look at the software in question

Thank you, Gavin. No need to apologise eh! This explanation you gave is fully satisfactory, may I suggest it should be "stickied" ?

    Regards

Actually I agree with that, it's a nice tid-bit to have handy.. especially for those of us that do a fair amount of beta testing.

Czerno : have you tried the latest version of FreeCap ? Please let us know if you are still having problems. I have only had a quick look and can't be sure if there is a problem or not.

Yes, I tried both the latest release and the next beta. Unfortunately they don't work correctly under Windows 98 (I reported on the Freecap forum, I won't detail here 'cause I feel that would be much off topic for this here forum).

The good news of course is it comes out the problem was not related to Port Explorer !
