After trying several free and sharewares antiviruses, for short while staying in that condition before buying one, I stayed with free AVG 7.5 whose exe I had. I had used it a long while (it's "516 a 1225") but got sick with the rumour that it will disappear. I have installed and uninstalled NOD 32, Avira, Avasta, etc. I have XP Pro; huge hard disk space; 1 G RAM; old Pentium III/700, functioning pretty well (sorry for I live in a the "underdevelopped" world where middle class is poor). I am very cautious in its cleaning, defrag and so on. Well, since the last AVG install, I get every other day uninstallation of resident shield... It's random, what makes the trouble very rare. And also a headache, for I have a lot of work to do and little time, and having to restart every time I go to my PC is a very "nice" way to start the day. I appreciate if somebody could help me. Many thanks and friendly greetings.:( :)

I have no experience with Rising, but I've tried several AV's for this PC - an Intel 1Gz PIII/512MB RAM and WinXP Pro. Avast! runs reasonably well, but the best for my system with limited specs is Avira.

    Sachs,

Try this: uninstall AVG and reboot, search and delete all traces of avg (folders/files) and all your temp files. Reboot again. Next, run regsupreme to fix all bad registry entries, and then restart pc. Lastly, reinstall AVG.
    Hope this helps.

Try using a registry cleaner like CCleaner and make sure all the folders from the other program you have uninstall have gone.

I'd say doing an uninstall using Revo uninstaller in Advanced mode, after that running a registry scan with a Registry cleaner, CCleaner's one might be fine. Then check if there are any files related to AVG in Program files or application data and delete them.

Many thanks to everybody. I decided to leave AVF alone and moved towards NOD that's lighter and I think it does protect very well. Greetings and thanks:)

Try Avast its great, its works well with other programs.

Not as good detection as antivir personal free.

Avast is the most complete free antivirus pack.

The bad with Avast is that the scan is very slow.
The good with Avast is the update is fast.

The good with antivir free is that the scan is fast.
The Bad with antivir free is that the update is slow/sluggish sometimes.

Both of the programs get you good protection.
    Sorry for my bad english.

AVG 7.5 is EOLed and won't receive any AV definition updates soon. AVG 8.0 is horrible, going the bloatware way. I'd suggest Avira personally, see ~removed link per this policy....Bubba~ if you want to try the Premium version or the Premium Security Suite even. ;) Also the chinese Rising thing seems quite popular today. Oh, and Comodo Antivirus 3 is about to be released by the end of July. :D

They're releasing Comodo Antivirus?! Took them long enough, lol. Now, when it comes out we'll let the Wilders testers go nuts on it and get the real deal.
